smart foodhas been operating in the segment of balanced nutrition delivery in Yekaterinburg for the fourth year. During this time, the company managed to tell about itself, form a customer base, and now it consistently receives from 100 orders a day. The Smart Food network has managed to open 12 operating enterprises over the years of franchising development.

To start a Smart Food franchise business, you need to invest a considerable amount of investment - from 2,000,000 rubles. A significant part of this amount, as the franchisor explained, is occupied by equipment, the cost of which is 1,700,000 rubles. The rest is rent, groceries, supplies, and a lump sum. The break-even point is reached by partners, as a rule, for 2 months of work, and the minimum payback period is 12 months.

The franchise package includes: the right to use the company's brand, a marketing program plan, training sessions for management personnel and a regional website. Everything else remains on the shoulders of the entrepreneur himself. The cost of the franchise is 450,000 rubles.

Another franchise allows you to produce and sell food, smoothies and juices under the brandDetoxPro.

Detox Pro gives entrepreneurs the opportunity to work on the production and delivery of food and desserts, as well as smoothies and juices, if they wish. For this, the franchisor has packaged separate franchise packages worth 100,000 and 150,000 rubles.

Subscription food is a popular business idea. No need to rent space for a restaurant, and this is one of the key factors risk in the food service business. How to create a healthy food delivery project from scratch?

Two or three years ago, a boom in “food by subscription” services began in Russia. The first major projects appeared: Party of Food, Tastes Better at Home, Elementaree (total investment over $1 million), Chefmarket ($6.3 million investment). The idea is simple - a person refuses to cook and visit restaurants and eats what couriers bring him.

According to Mikhail Peregudov, the founder of the Party Food service, in 2016 his company's revenue will double and reach 100 million rubles. Olga Zinovieva, the founder of the Elementaree project, has even more grandiose plans - she expects that in 2016 revenue will increase several times (in 2015 it amounted to 70 million rubles). True, at the same time, she admits that the company will not receive profit at the end of the year - the project lives on investment money.

The growth of the subscription food market is a global trend. Estimated research company Technomic, the market reached $1 billion in 2015, and by 2020 it will grow to $10 billion. At the same time, competition is getting tougher - not everyone survives. For example, the Katerina.ru service, which was launched at the peak of the popularity of such projects, was retrained as a catering company, the Joy of Cooking service was closed, and Elementaree hardly crossed the “valley of death” last year - the partner Silard Buksha left the company, and Olga Zinoviev has been desperately cutting costs all last year.

“The subscription food market is obviously growing, large players have appeared on it, original supermarkets that work for a mass audience, but new niche projects also have prospects if they can make a personalized offer and work in the premium segment. It is unlikely that it will be possible to compete with the market leaders on price,” Olga Zinovieva believes.

The most obvious niche is food delivery for people who are serious about their health. “The healthy food market is growing even in times of crisis. More than half of the applications to our business accelerator are from projects related to healthy eating,” says Ivan Sidorok, founder of the Mabius Culinary Startup Center, co-owner of the Nizhny Novgorod Oil and Fat Plant. He believes that the online healthy food delivery market will continue to grow for many years to come.

How projects that deliver food for lovers are developing healthy lifestyle life?

Just Food: Bachelor Business

Robotics engineer Nikita Kasatov, mechatronics engineer Sergei Korolev, and quantum and nonlinear optics specialist Yaroslav Kachanov decided to chip in on the cook when they realized that they could not solve the problem of proper nutrition. All three went in for sports: Sergey played water polo, Nikita played for the Russian national sailing team, and Yaroslav went in for crossfit.

Combining work, sports and self-cooking seemed unbearable, and young people had not yet got families. “I had to go to the grocery store almost every evening, then boil this buckwheat, cook meat, put it all in containers. It takes half a lifetime!” - shares Sergey, who worked at that time in the IT company Platforma.

Looking for simple solution the issue of proper nutrition, friends began to test various ready-made food delivery services. “We tried almost everything. Some brought some soups with shrimp, mango soufflé - we didn’t really understand all this. And the menu cost about 3.5 thousand rubles. per day, that is, more than 100 thousand rubles would be spent on food per month,” says Sergey Korolev. As a result, they managed to find two services with an adequate price tag - an average of 1.5 thousand rubles. for the daily menu. Delivery was the weak point. “For performance-oriented athletes, it is important to eat according to the regimen without skipping meals. When the couriers of the healthy food delivery service are two hours late, what kind of mode can we talk about! Korolev is outraged.

The friends decided to hire a cook to cook the right food for them. Other acquaintances also liked the idea - the services of a cook who cooked at home for 10-12 people cost 40 thousand rubles. per month, about another 50 thousand rubles. went to pay for the delivery service, the products were bought by a courier in stores.

“Gradually, there were more and more people who wanted to eat right. More and more acquaintances were added to the WhatsApp chat, asking for healthy food to be delivered to them. It became clear that it was time to make a website to take orders,” says Korolev. The first investments amounted to only 120 thousand rubles, 50 thousand rubles. of which was spent on the development of the first version of the menu, the rest - on packaging. We found a supplier of eco-tableware on the Internet and bought cardboard containers with plastic lid. “I put the logo in KeyNote in 3 minutes, a simple website was made by a familiar programmer for free,” recalls Korolev. At the same time, customers made an advance payment, the ingredients and packaging were already purchased with their money.

In October 2015, the partners rented an industrial kitchen, registered an individual entrepreneur and updated the website; by December, the average monthly turnover exceeded 400 thousand rubles. “We agreed with a restaurant in one of the business centers to set up production at their facilities,” says Korolev. “We deliver food from 6 a.m. to noon, and cook at night from 8 p.m. until 2-3 a.m. when the business center kitchen is idle.”

The most difficult, according to the founders of the project, was to find employees. I had to take orders myself and coordinate the work of couriers. “We changed about four bosses, three administrators. We looked for recommendations, acquaintances, in a restaurant party, ”says Korolev. Now Just Food offers six nutrition programs: for gaining mass, for those struggling with excess weight and for those who want to keep fit. On the site you can calculate your calorie intake.

Boxes with healthy food are delivered every two days by 15 couriers. On average, 2 thousand sets are shipped per month, in September the average production volume was 80 sets per day. “The most popular type of subscription is for two weeks,” says Sergey Korolev. - Even if a person orders food for several months in a row, it is psychologically more convenient for him to pay 12-13 thousand rubles, and then renew, rather than subscribe immediately for a month for 23 thousand rubles. The main channel for attracting new customers is Instagram (Just Food has 11 thousand subscribers).

Menu updates are discussed by the whole team. “The introduction of a new sauce can grow into a whole discussion: one will stand up for taste, the other for calories,” Sergey admits. “In general, this food requires a certain habituation, a philosophical attitude, it is not for gourmets.” Despite the fact that Kasatov and Kachanov continue to work as IT specialists, the founders solve key issues together.

The company's turnover is now about 2.2 million rubles. per month. Basic expenses - 200 thousand rubles. for the wages of cooks and about the same for the wages of two administrators and a manager. 100 thousand rubles goes to rent a kitchen of 200 sq. m. About 500 thousand rubles. it costs the purchase of ingredients, 250 thousand rubles. packaging costs and the same for courier services. Net profit - about 200 thousand rubles.

EatBit: online healthy food restaurant

Ekaterina Baranova threw off 15 kg, eating boiled chicken breasts and buckwheat. But she paid for her result for a long time: she had to spend a year and a half to restore her health. After such an experience, the girl stopped experimenting with diets and went to work as a trainer in one of the crossfit gyms in Moscow.

“Most don’t understand that eating boiled chicken breast and cottage cheese for months is not a solution to the problem. A month, and your lid will definitely be torn off, then you will gain even more, ”says Baranova. She constantly carried containers of food with her to the fitness club. Colleagues and clients often wondered what it was she was eating. Once, while looking for a new recipe on one of the American sites, Ekaterina saw an advertisement for a healthy food service “by subscription” and thought that she could organize something similar in Russia. She began to cook at home for colleagues and some clients of the fitness club. When there were a lot of people who wanted to order dishes by Baranova, the girl decided to organize her own food delivery service.

With an investment of 1 million rubles. family helped. With this money, a year ago, the girl rented a kitchen in a restaurant in a business center near the Rimskaya metro station in Moscow, ordered a logo from the designer and hired a cook. “Because I had no experience at all in restaurant business, I made a lot of mistakes. For example, I bought a software package for managing iiko restaurants for 130 thousand rubles, but most of the functionality was not needed, ”recalls Ekaterina.

Baranova buys the ingredients herself - from farmers or in stores, and entrusted the delivery to a courier service. The hardest part was putting together the menu. “I had to compose it so that nothing was repeated, the balance of proteins, fats and carbohydrates was maintained, and it was convenient for chefs to use ingredients for different dishes,” says the entrepreneur. According to her, the service focuses on the caloric content of the diet and the taste characteristics of dishes, rather than dietary products.

EatBit Offers comprehensive programs and meals with a certain calorie content. So, a day of a diet for 1600 kilocalories will cost 1.5 thousand rubles, a month - 35 thousand rubles. Now there are 400 customers in the service database, eight of them have been constantly eating only EatBit dishes for six months. According to RBC's calculations, the monthly revenue of the project is about 800 thousand rubles. Ekaterina left her job as a coach, but she has not yet been able to return the debt to her family.

The scale of the business is small, but Ekaterina knows every regular customer and adapts the dishes - someone does not eat rice, and someone is allergic to dairy products. “I have always dreamed of a cozy restaurant with a family atmosphere,” Baranova admits. “But with Moscow rental prices, this is unrealistic, which is why I decided to focus on delivery.”

Grow Food: a healthy startup

Ironically, Internet entrepreneurs Daniel Galper and Pavel Paskar came up with the idea of a healthy food delivery service for athletes while drinking at a bar. In the summer of 2015, both of them took part in an acceleration program at the iDealMachine business incubator in St. Petersburg, each with their own IT project. During regular gatherings on Friday, they complained to each other about how much time it takes to count calories, proteins, fats, carbohydrates, and most importantly, to cook. “We are both athletes: Pasha does SAMBO, and I go to the gym,” says Daniel. “You need to eat right and on time, but there is absolutely no time to constantly organize your diet, and this is 90% of success in bodybuilding.”

In September 2015, the partners rented a 40 sq. m in St. Petersburg and launched a delivery service. A familiar fitness trainer and sports nutritionist helped with the calculation of calorie content and menu planning. “At first everything went very slowly, there were no customers, but there was an opportunity to experiment with the menu,” says Daniel.

Sales went up only when one of the familiar fitness bloggers posted on Instagram a photo of containers with the Grow Food logo. Then entrepreneurs began to actively cooperate with athletes and other fitness bloggers, began to supply their boxes to athletes for free during the championships. “We provide them with food, they talk about us in their social networks,” says Galper. Connecting social networks gave an explosive effect: in January 2016, the service already had more than 200 regular customers against 40 in December 2015.

Back in November 2015, the project was supported by investor Alexander Borodich - he invested 4 million rubles. “Despite the fact that Grow Food seems to be another food delivery service, as an IT specialist and marketer, I considered it competitive advantages and technological solutions that will allow the project to scale easily,” says Borodich.

In January 2016, the project team moved to new site- with a kitchen of 400 sq. m and new equipment, which was purchased abroad. Thanks to Borodich's investments, high-level professionals began to be hired: chefs were recruited from a well-known Italian restaurant chain in St. Petersburg, and technologists from the O'Key hypermarket chain.

The service has only two types of menus: “for drying” and “for gaining weight” - this allows you to systematize the process and reduce costs. Prices for the weekly menu from Grow Food start at 3.3 thousand rubles. in St. Petersburg and from 3.5 thousand rubles. in Moscow. However, the quality of food does not suit everyone. “From sorting animal protein to the environment, I had terrible indigestion,” blogger Tasha Sokolova writes in her review.

The abundance of buckwheat on the menu does not bother investors: in June 2016, the service attracted another 30 million rubles. from the AddVenture Foundation. Now the service sells healthy food for 25 million rubles. per month in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Every day in St. Petersburg alone, 50 drivers deliver boxes of Grow Food, another 50 people are employed in production, and 15 in the office in St. Petersburg. The partners have plans to organize food delivery throughout Russia by DHL. It is unlikely that food delivered by mail will be tasty, but "for drying" this is not important.

The demand for the delivery of ready-made healthy meals is increasing every day. People have no time to cook, but they want to eat tasty and healthy. This creates a demand that remains unsatisfied. The profitability of such a business as a healthy food delivery service is facilitated by a small amount of investment and competition, a minimum of risks, and simple reporting to supervisory authorities.

Business concept and target audience

Marketers believe that in a city with a population of about a million people, the volume of the catering market is approximately 18 million rubles a year. The average potential of delivery services is 15 million rubles annually. In the case of healthy eating, due to the narrowness of the niche, this amount should be reduced to 10 million. But the target audience growing: an increasing number of people are concerned about their own health and longevity.

You can also order healthy food for a big family holiday.

Who might be interested in healthy food delivery:

The introduction of a delivery department into the structure of an ordinary restaurant is associated for the owner with a significant investment of time and money. In the course of work, unforeseen expenses inevitably appear.

Most restaurants and cafeterias do not include delivery in the list of services for visitors.

Because of this, they lose possible income from people who do not have the time or desire to visit the institution.

There are three delivery formats for ready-to-eat healthy meals:

  • Difficult. Some organizers of such a business open a kitchen with the delivery of ready meals. Investments in the premises, equipment, products, obtaining permits from sanitary doctors, firefighters, veterinarians are required. Yes, and the staff needs an extensive: higher and salary costs.
  • Average. An interesting type of business: customers are brought organic ingredients for dishes with recipes and calculated calories. The customer prepares the dinner with his own hands. The downside is the need for a warehouse, processing workshop and personnel who will deal with this.
  • Simple. You enter into a contract with catering establishments, hire a nutritionist to evaluate the calorie content and safety of dishes. Collect orders from customers according to the created healthy food menu (from different catering outlets) through the call center and a special Internet resource and deliver them. The intermediary method saves start-up capital and, at the same time, meet people's demand for healthy food.

We will dwell on the opening of such a business in more detail. If you purchase a delivery service franchise, preparing for the start of your business and its maintenance will be simplified even more. But it still needs to be redeemed. It will cost from 130,000 rubles.

What is required for implementation

First of all, the creation of a call center and the recruitment of couriers with their own cars. Such a kit implies systematic costs every month:

  • rental of premises;
  • employees' wages;
  • connection;
  • gasoline payment;
  • transport repair.

You will also need to create your own online service for receiving applications.

But without the right advertising campaign, all efforts to create a healthy food delivery service will not bring results. Your main advertising platforms are local glossy magazines, catalogs, thematic websites and city groups in social networks. Conduct an advertising campaign for at least two months, identifying 2-3 resources for further placement (the most inexpensive and effective).

Most of the time will be spent searching for partner restaurants.

The variety of the menu and, accordingly, the demand depends on how many establishments want to cooperate with you. First, create a database of all catering outlets in the city. In its first lines should be those that are focused on the preparation of healthy food from environmentally friendly clean products. Call them and set up a personal meeting with the manager. So you can convince him of the benefits of cooperation with your company and conclude a contract.

Monthly premium also 2000 rubles. The salary of a nutritionist depends on the amount of work, but on average it will be 15,000 rubles. You will still need to allocate money for gasoline.

According to the estimates of those who already work in this area, an average of 150,000 rubles comes out.

Every month you need to pay rent - 20,000 rubles. Additional costs will fall on a remote accountant and site setup specialist. Put another 10,000 on it.

Total monthly expenses will amount to 180,000 rubles.

How much can you earn and payback period

Revenues in this business are made up of shipping costs and a percentage of the order. The first month net profit will be about 12,000 rubles. But it will go entirely to taxes. In the second month, after paying taxes and salaries, the profit will be approximately 25,000. And after three months, you can fully recoup your initial investment. Profit after tax, starting from the fourth month, will be from 130,000 rubles.

Benefits and Risks

The risk of fraud among customers is eliminated by registering on the site with personal data. Additional advantages can be considered easy business management and a small start-up capital. Business development is aimed at creating additional services (delivery of flowers, eco-goods and cosmetics), attracting corporate clients(healthy office lunches).

A business created in this service sector can become very profitable, and besides, it has many prospects. Undoubtedly, there is even more competition for him, but with the desire and hard work, you will find your niche that will make you successful.

Food delivery: business features and nuances

Food belongs to this kind of goods that under no circumstances leave the market, because “you always want to eat”, everyone and constantly, despite the crisis or other troubles. Food delivery services, although they appeared relatively recently, are quickly gaining popularity for many reasons:

  • busy people in big cities do not have time to buy groceries in the store or do not find time to cook;
  • some firms provide their employees with delivery ready meals, the so-called business lunches (or employees of offices and corporations themselves order such services);
  • many establishments (pizzerias, sushi bars or restaurants, etc.) immediately have their own production and delivery (you can eat with them or arrange courier services);
  • on a large scale, this business is already called catering and assumes that you can cater for large events (banquets, various holidays, meetings or special occasions).

Of course, you can and should start small, because not everyone will be able to immediately conquer the market. Before you open the delivery of food at home, you need to carefully prepare. It is best to create a business plan, because this way you can gradually distribute all the points and not miss anything.

  1. To make your business profitable and successful, analyze this market segment by collecting all the relevant information for your city.
  2. Decide on the shape of your business. There are several options:
    • use prepared food from a restaurant (cafe), but sell it with a certain margin due to the delivery service;
    • cook yourself (this can be an absolutely family, home business, when you do everything at home, or in a specialized kitchen). In this case, you can also sell your services in different ways, that is, either involve other relatives in the business, or hire a courier with a car;
    • sell not only ready-made food, but also semi-finished products (you need to be able to prepare them), as well as independent products, doing business through online orders and delivery.
  3. Each of these options has its own advantages and disadvantages. To choose where to start, evaluate your financial capabilities and try to analyze all possible risks. After that, go to prepare the material and legal base. Serious work awaits you.
  4. Already during the organizational process, you will have to look for a place suitable for cooking and storing food, suppliers of goods, decide on transport and other working moments.
  5. Next, you need to do advertising and search for customers. This is a very important point, because it will be possible to talk about the payback or profit of a business only on the condition of an established client base and constant development.

As you can see, to realize this idea, it will take a lot of effort, time and money. But, having a clear plan of action, you can begin to translate your ideas into reality.

Where to begin?

Before starting a food delivery business, you need to figure out how you can stand out from your competitors. To succeed, you need to constantly be on top, pleasantly surprise your customers and make them contact you again and again. It’s good if you manage to organize a full cycle of services, that is, from cooking to food delivery.

If you already have your own restaurant or other establishment (cafeteria, canteen, pizzeria), then you can simply add new service- delivery of food by courier. Then you do not have to search for premises, suppliers and staff. The issue of issuing permits and other documentation will also be removed, and the business concept will be clear.

However, owning a restaurant is not acceptable for everyone. Perhaps on initial stage you do not have the necessary amount or experience to start such a business. Then how to open a food delivery service as small firm or a family business - quite realistically. That is, you can start from the other side, and having unwinded and gained a foothold in the market, you can already invest in the institution of your dreams.

We create our own website

You can order website development from scratch or buy already finished project. The second option will cost you less, besides, you can immediately start working with it.

The best option for money and speed of creation is to use the services of freelancers. Also, feel free to entrust them with any tasks that you have as you create and grow your business - writing articles, creating a logo, finding clients, etc. It is best to use a specialized platform, for example, Perform.ru, where the process of interaction with performers will be simple and safe.

Try to come up with an interesting design for the site and work out various marketing strategies so that it does not just “hang” on the Internet as a dead weight, but really works and attracts customers. By the fact of attendance and interest, it will be possible to judge in what other directions you need to move.

Everything according to the law: the main points of legal training

Package content required documents will depend on whether you are already the owner of any business organization Catering. Some entrepreneurs do not want to initially start fussing with legal registration and they begin to do this only after some time has passed or in case of unexpected troubles. But you need to understand that you can’t just cook at home in the kitchen and sell food to people: you can get in serious trouble with the law.

Business must be set up correctly:

  • register in tax office, choose the form of taxation and prepare a package of documents for registration;
  • pay the required state fees and submit an application for entry into the EGRIP;
  • if you plan to make a cashless payment, you need to open a bank account;
  • obtain appropriate permits from the sanitary and epidemiological service for the premises you have chosen and the implementation of all planned services (cooking, food storage, transportation, etc.). SES checks both working conditions and food preparation conditions. Your employees must have valid medical books, where they will enter the data of medical examinations and confirmation of the hygienic training / certification passed;
  • obtain permission from the fire department, whose employees will also check the premises and document that it meets the necessary standards and requirements, and your employees have passed the necessary certification and can work with food;
  • papers authorizing your activity must be signed by the committee on consumer market, and in Rospotrebnadzor;
  • register cash machine and buy a print.

Remember that your entrepreneurial activity must be associated with delivery services (you also need permission!), because you will have to conclude supply contracts, sign bills of lading and waybills for drivers.

Here's what it takes to start food delivery from scratch. However, full package you will only need documents if you buy and equip your own premises.

Important organizational issues

You need to decide how you will start working: will you be able to manage at first on your own or will you hire a staff? It is also worth considering the order of work, that is, how and where you will purchase, store and prepare food. There are several options.

  1. Products are pre-purchased and stored in cold stores and other related equipment. Of course, this means that the money has already been invested. However, there is a plus: you can post information on the site about the availability of a particular product, and the buyer will immediately become interested. A preliminary menu is also made for clients, based on their requests.
  2. The second option involves the purchase of products and cooking with subsequent delivery only after the accepted order. On the one hand, you are less likely to be at a loss, but on the other hand, you will not be able to promptly accept and fulfill customer orders, which will lead to their leaving in search of someone quicker.

Equipment and raw materials

If you yourself equip your premises for a full production cycle, then you will need to spend a lot of money to purchase at least the most necessary things. The names and amount of the investment will depend on the specifics of your food, how you will cook it, what figure you are counting on, etc. Initially, you can not take imported and expensive equipment, because at a much reasonable price you can buy it second-hand y.

However, you will definitely need:

  • all kinds of kitchen utensils (pans, pots, graters, knives, forks, spoons, cutting boards, etc.);
  • get at least one good multifunctional combine that will replace your meat grinder, blender, mixer and other necessary appliances;

  • operator (dispatcher) who will receive calls and place orders;
  • cooks (one or more - according to the situation);
  • couriers (usually hire employees with their own car);
  • others can be hired as needed as your business grows and expands (security guards, warehouse workers, cleaning lady, in-house accountant, etc.).

Your employees must be honest, efficient and responsible.

In the future, it will be possible to purchase special vehicles which will be equipped with a thermal body. Transport costs will need to be included in the cost of meals, while you should calculate the actual costs of car depreciation and fuel.
