Io is a city in China. Yiwu city information. Yiwu is China's largest shopping center

Yiwu (English "Yiwu", Chinese义乌 ) is a city of about 2 million people, located in the east of Zhejiang Province. The city is famous primarily for its developed international trade light industry goods.

Formally, Yiwu is just a city of "district significance", under the control of the "district center" - Jinhua. But Yiwu is more famous than Jinhua, both inside China and in other countries.

Exit from Futien Market and view of Yiwu business district

Modern Yiwu

Yiwu has been developing so rapidly in recent decades only thanks to the Futien International Wholesale Market. This is a kind of "city-forming enterprise". Today it is a huge complex of buildings, more than 150,000 showrooms of manufacturers and trading companies from all over China.

Futien is the most successful wholesale market in China. The project aims to provide an opportunity for many manufacturers from all over China to show their goods directly and "live" to customers from different countries. In fact, this is the largest exhibition that never closes.

Many cities and regions wanted to attract buyers from all over the world, had similar projects, but only in Yiwu everything turned out so well. Now Futien and Yiwu are one of the most attractive places in China for those who want to find suppliers, do business related to the export of goods from China. Yiwu only competes with Guangzhou and Shenzhen, and Yiwu always has more attractive prices and it is not necessary to buy goods in whole containers.

One of the reasons is the competent economic and administrative policy of the region. Yiwu implemented special conditions for local and, most importantly, foreign companies.

The main entrance to area No. 1 of the Futien Wholesale Market

The second reason is the Futien complex itself. Perfectly organized space, convenient location, huge size - more than 150,000 showrooms of manufacturers from all over China.

Developed infrastructure - more than a hundred hotels, many office buildings, storage facilities, developed transport network- Getting to Yiwu is not difficult.

Foreigners can easily reside in Yiwu without strict supervision from the authorities. They can open their offices, representative offices of companies - also under a simplified procedure. This economic freedom eventually paid off - in Yiwu there are many buying offices, buying agents from all over the world, which only increases the trade turnover.

The city continues to grow, new districts of the Futien market, a business and financial center, warehouse space, factories, representative offices of suppliers and manufacturers are being built.

Business and financial district under construction in Yiwu

At present, delegations of authorities from other cities and regions of China are not uncommon in Yiwu. They try to adopt the experience of economic development of the city. There are many conferences, events at the regional and governmental level.

The city has a large number of foreigners, most from India and the Middle East - the largest buyers in Yiwu, purchase the largest volume of products in quantitative terms. Mostly they are purchasing agents, trading companies, offices for the purchase of foreign companies.

At present, due to the fact that there are more and more foreigners in Yiwu, many of them are employed not only directly in the field international deliveries. Many are engaged in business in the service sector - many European, Muslim, Arabic restaurants and cafes, hairdressers, hotels and so on are open. As well as Christian churches, mosques.

In the recent past, just a few years ago, Yiwu produced a huge number of copies of goods famous brands. Nowadays, the rules have become stricter, copies are becoming harder and harder to find.

Business district in Yiwu, China

The city continues to be actively built up - new roads, bridges, entire residential areas, shopping centers. At the same time, population growth is currently in question.

Most of the inhabitants are "migrant workers", the main indigenous population in Yiwu is only about 600-700 thousand people. In 2015, there was a decline in trade both in general in China and in Yiwu in particular. Therefore, whether the city will continue at the same rapid pace - no one knows. It all depends on economic situation in the world, from the demand for goods.

There are more than 100 hotels in Yiwu - from the cheapest to the Marriott Hotel. Most of them are also located near Futien Wholesale Market.

The airport in Yiwu accepts flights within China, it is not international. You can fly here from Beijing, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Urumqi and other cities.

Yiwu, near District No. 3 Wholesale Market

There is also a high-speed train station, part of China's high-speed train network. High-speed trains can be reached from Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou and other cities. The station is currently being expanded as more passengers need to be accommodated.

Yiwu has a logistics center "Yiwu Port". It is a collosal building that includes warehouse space, offices of commercial and government organizations and, most importantly, the customs office.

In "Yiwu-Port" you can load the container and immediately, without leaving the complex, carry out all the procedures customs clearance required in China. This is very convenient, in the future the container is sent to the seaports already "cleaned" - saving time.

Office buildings near Futien Wholesale Market in Yiwu, China

Yiwu is also the beginning of the "new silk road" - from here containers leave for Europe and Russia along the new high-speed railway. For example, goods to Moscow by rail take only about 14 days. True, prices are still high, but in the future everyone is waiting for further development of this path and lower prices.

In the future, this is a real alternative to sea transportation. First of all, this way is interesting because of the speed of delivery of goods.

The largest wholesale market in Yiwu is Futien. This is a complex of five interconnected buildings 8 km long. 70,000 factory pavilions from all over China operate on the market all year round, seven days a week from 8:30 to 17:00. Futien Market in Yiwu City has the largest wholesale supply of household goods in the world. In addition to household goods, artificial flowers, toys, jewelry, souvenirs, decor items, socks and tights, umbrellas, lamps, locks, stationery, watches, glasses, art supplies are well presented.

Weather in Yiwu

The weather in Yiwu is due to the subtropical climate, very similar to the climate of Sochi. In summer it is hot and humid, the air warms up to +40°C. In autumn and winter, the weather in Yiwu is changeable, it often rains, the average temperature is + 8-15 ° C. Just like Sochi, Yiwu is surrounded by low mountains, but unfortunately there is no sea here.

Yiwu has a lot of greenery, neat lawns, beautifully trimmed bushes. Wipers ride three-wheeled "cargo" bicycles through the streets. All year round, not excluding winter, trees, shrubs and flowers bloom, replacing each other.

Yiwu Hotels

In Yiwu, like in any other city in China, there are enough hotels different levels comfort. A lot of hotels are located along the Futien market. Basically, these are inexpensive three-star hotels from 120-180 yuan per night for a double room with Wi-Fi and breakfast. There are also 4-5 star hotels, prices for which start from 350 yuan.

There are places in Yiwu hotels at any time of the year, so when you arrive, you will definitely rent a room of the comfort you need at a suitable price. You can book a room in advance, for example, on the website booking.com. We have also marked on the Yiwu map conveniently located hotels where our clients most often stay. Look

How did you get to China and Yiwu? What are you doing here?

The first time I came here was in 2006 with a classmate after an internship at Shandong University. At that time little was known about this city. But my friend had been here before, so I knew roughly that the city is wholesale, based solely on the export of consumer goods. AT this moment I do shopping. I work for a Moscow company, we ship toys, household and sporting goods, we produce underwear under our own brand.

What is Yiwu famous for and why is it special? Why is it worth living here?

I must say right away that living here is not easy in the sense that foreigners live in Shanghai, Beijing and others. major cities. There are very few places for leisure. The main purpose of life here is to earn money. The main attraction of the city is the largest wholesale market of consumer goods Futien Note. Ed.). The market stretched into five sectors, each with five floors. People from all over the world come here. There are also large wholesale markets for clothing, food and production materials.

What neighboring cities or areas do you visit?

I travel a lot in China on business trips. But for recreation I prefer Hangzhou, Shanghai, Hong Kong.

Which foreigners live in Yiwu and what do they do? Is there a community?

Businessmen from the Middle East and Central Asia are the main contingent here. They have their own kindergartens and schools. There is a mosque in the city. There are also a large number of restaurants and cafes, where Oriental cuisine is widely represented. There are many Russian speakers in the city who work here, study or just spend time. There are many communities of Arabs and Indians.

What are the gastronomic specialties of Yiwu?

Oriental cuisine is represented most widely here. There are a small number of restaurants with European and Caucasian cuisines.

Valeria in front of the entrance to one of the wholesale markets

Do you have Chinese friends? How do you spend your time?

There are no Chinese friends. Basically, communication is limited to work.

Would you like to leave Yiwu? Where and why?

I'm not considering leaving at the moment. Since there are a large number of plans and projects, the implementation of which requires personal presence.

What are the main difficulties foreigners face in Yiwu?

To be honest, I don't see any problems. It might just be a language barrier. For a very long time I got used to the southern pronunciation, because before that, at the universities of Russia and China, we were taught only in the northern dialect.

I would probably advise students to come here after graduation. Language practice and practice related to foreign economic activity they can get here in full in a very short period of time. All this will help them in their future life and work in China.

Who shouldn't go to Yiwu?

Lazy people have no place here, that's for sure. The basic principle of life here - as you stomp, you will burst.

For the title illustration, a photo of Chinese Importing was used.

Story

20 years ago, Yiwu City was an unknown town with a population of about 600,000 people whose main occupation was agriculture. Nowadays, the city has become a rapidly developing center of international medium and small wholesale trade, here is the world's largest wholesale market (Futien) of consumer goods, which is the center of business development for many businessmen from all over the world.

Key trade objects

Futien International Trade Center (China Commodity City)

The main attraction of the city and the key object is the Futien consumer market. This is an incredibly large building, the length of which is more than 3 km. More than 300 thousand people work at the market every day, and even more people visit it. The market is located on five floors, divided into sectors (five sectors in total) and has many transitions. There are more than 100,000 stores (“shops”) on the territory of the market. Each sector of Futien has a name in the form of a Latin letter of the alphabet, and each store has its own unique number.

Futien is intended for the sale of goods from all over China, including Hong Kong. Foreigners from all over the world come here every day and buy goods for the needs of their business. Basically, the market is a large wholesale, and are less common retail sales. The most interesting thing is that an incredible number of items are presented here. If you say that there are more than 10 million of them, you can not be mistaken at all.

It will take about a month to go around the entire market, looking into each shop. Based on the fact that the sellers begin to close closer to five o'clock in the evening local time, it is not always possible to short term find all desired goods. There are air conditioners and seating throughout, so visitors don't have to languish in the hot Ivuvian weather while visiting Futien.

Like any large shopping mall in China, the market attracts a wide variety of businesses. Here you can meet many foreign translators, foreign representatives of various companies providing services to support transactions with the market. This is not surprising, because the variety of goods on the market will amaze even an experienced foreign entrepreneur.

Binwang Night Market

Once upon a time, the word "Bingwan" was the name of a clothing market in Yiwu City, where it was offered to buy in bulk many different textile products. But over time, almost all the sellers from Binwan left to sell their goods to the larger and more attractive Futien market.

However, in the evening and at night, a real fair opens here. Many different tents with goods surround the empty building of the shopping center and sellers lure visitors with various slogans and shouts. There are both ordinary everyday goods and food products. The market itself is not much different from other similar markets in China, but, nevertheless, it is one of the key objects of the city of Yiwu.

Huangyuan Market Shopping Center

Huangyuan is Yiwu City's largest stock clothing market.

Climate

AT summer time It's pretty hot in Yiwu. Thermometers can go over the mark of 38 degrees Celsius. However, along with this, it often rains here, accompanied by a copious amount of lightning. In winter, the temperature here is from zero to ten degrees. Travelers, when visiting Yiwu city in spring, summer and autumn, should bring umbrellas, raincoats and waterproof shoes, as well as sun protection.

The most famous market in Yiwu is Futien International Wholesale Market. Let's talk about it in detail, it's the most big market in the world.

There are other markets in Yiwu that are no less interesting. In general, we can say that Yiwu, together with other nearby cities, is the best place in China for a trip to purchase a variety of categories of goods.

So, now in more detail:

This is not just a "market" in the sense that most people understand - you come and buy goods from the counter. In fact, this is an exhibition where manufacturers exhibit product samples and accept wholesale orders. You don’t even have to think about the fact that you can buy something at retail here. Bulk orders only.

Divided into "districts" - areas. Separate buildings, but they are all interconnected. The total length is about 3 km. The total number of showrooms of manufacturers and sellers is about 100,000. It is simply impossible to go around the entire Futien and carefully examine all the goods.

Each area of the district exhibits its own types of goods. Rarely does the range overlap. That is, each region specializes in its own type of product. It is possible that you will not even look into other districts, you will work only in one and that will be enough. Maybe even just on one floor of one district.
