Yiwu (English "Yiwu", Chinese义乌 ) is a city of about 2 million people, located in the east of Zhejiang Province. The city is famous primarily for its developed international trade light industry goods.

How did you get to China and Yiwu? What are you doing here?
The first time I came here was in 2006 with a classmate after an internship at Shandong University. At that time little was known about this city. But my friend had been here before, so I knew roughly that the city is wholesale, based solely on the export of consumer goods. AT this moment I do shopping. I work for a Moscow company, we ship toys, household and sporting goods, we produce underwear under our own brand.

What is Yiwu famous for and why is it special? Why is it worth living here?
I must say right away that living here is not easy in the sense that foreigners live in Shanghai, Beijing and others. major cities. There are very few places for leisure. The main purpose of life here is to earn money. The main attraction of the city is the largest wholesale market of consumer goods Futien Note. Ed.). Businessmen from the Middle East and Central Asia are the main contingent here. They have their own kindergartens and schools. There is a mosque in the city. There are also a large number of restaurants and cafes, where Oriental cuisine is widely represented. There are many Russian speakers in the city who work here, study or just spend time. There are many communities of Arabs and Indians.

What are the main difficulties foreigners face in Yiwu?
To be honest, I don't see any problems. It might just be a language barrier. For a very long time I got used to the southern pronunciation, because before that, at the universities of Russia and China, we were taught only in the northern dialect.
I would probably advise students to come here after graduation. Language practice and practice related to foreign economic activity they can get here in full in a very short period of time. All this will help them in their future life and work in China.

Futien is intended for the sale of goods from all over China, including Hong Kong. Foreigners from all over the world come here every day and buy goods for the needs of their business. Basically, the market is a large wholesale, and are less common retail sales. The most interesting thing is that an incredible number of items are presented here. If you say that there are more than 10 million of them, you can not be mistaken at all.

It is possible that you will not even look into other districts, you will work only in one and that will be enough. Maybe even just on one floor of one district.

District 1
The "oldest" market area in Yiwu. But, it is still the most visited, as very popular goods for purchase are exhibited here.
1st floor.
Artificial flowers. Here, mostly ready-made flowers for interior decoration, but also ritual ones. Accessories for flower production. Also here you will find a huge amount of packaging for flowers (both artificial and natural), various materials for decorating bouquets, art supplies based on artificial flowers and much more.
