Self-management is a condition for personal and professional success

“Time is the most limited capital, and if you cannot
to dispose of it, you will not be able to dispose of anything else.
P. Drucker

Time is the same resource as people, raw materials, financial resources. Its most important feature is irrevocable - it cannot be accumulated, transferred, borrowed, therefore it is important to learn how to use it with maximum benefit. No wonder they say: time is money. These are not just words.

Indeed, if, for example, an employee mishandled his time, the terms of the contract were not met on time, the company will have to pay a fine to compensate for losses associated with downtime. The success of each leader depends not only on the material and economic value, but also on how he manages the most valuable acquisition - time. The leader must consciously and systematically use his time to achieve his goal.

Self-management (or time management) is a technique for the proper use of time. Self-management helps you get the job done at a lower cost, organize your work better (hence getting better results), reduce workload and, as a result, reduce rush and stress. Renowned management specialist Alan McKenzie said, “There is nothing easier than being busy. And there is nothing more difficult than being productive.”

Self-management is the consistent and purposeful use of effective methods of work in daily practice, with the optimal use of one's resources to achieve one's own goals. Self-management allows you to effectively go through all the stages successful way to the goal, namely:

  • decide what you want to achieve;
  • create your own vision of success;
  • use the "big jumps" method;
  • believe that success will come;
  • focus on goals leading to success;
  • don't lose heart when you fail.

Self-management has a set of rules and functions. Let's note the main ones.

1. Goal setting

This is a temporary process, since during the activity of the enterprise it may become clear that certain parameters have changed, and this leads to the need to revise the goal. For self-management, the awareness of where the employee wants to go and where he does not want to go (but where others want to take him) is of fundamental importance. One of the rules of effective management says: “Random successes are beautiful, but not guaranteed. Planned successes are better because they are managed and happen more often.”

It is worth setting a short-term goal consistent with the achievement of a long-term global goal.

2. Planning

Designed to provide rational use most valuable resource - time. The better time is planned, the better it can be used in personal and professional interests leader. Planning as an integral part of the tasks and rules of self-management means preparing for the realization of the goal. Planning daily work, medium- and long-term goals also means saving time, achieving success and greater self-confidence.

The main advantage that is gained by scheduling work is that time scheduling brings a gain in time. General practical experience in production shows that an increase in time spent on planning ultimately leads to time savings in general.

3. Basic rules for planning time

3.1. Ratio (60:40). Experience shows that it is best to draw up a plan only for a certain part of the working time (pas 60%). Approximately half of the working day the manager spends outside the workplace, because the work requires interaction with people, the exchange of information. Always gotta leave certain percentage time as a reserve for unexpected visitors, telephone conversations, emergencies or as a result of underestimating the duration of some cases.

3.2. Regularity - consistency - consistency. You need to work on time plans regularly and systematically, consistently bringing the work you have started to the end.

3.3. Realistic planning. You need to plan only such a volume of tasks that the employee can realistically cope with.

3.4. Filling lost time. It is better to fill the lost time, but the opportunities immediately, for example, it is better to work longer once in the evening than to make up for the lost the day before during the next whole day.

3.5. Fixing results instead of actions. It is necessary to fix in the plans the results or the goal, and not just any actions, so that the efforts are initially directed directly towards achieving the goal. This will help to avoid unplanned activities.

3.6. Deadline. In order to avoid procrastination and postponing things, it is necessary to set exact deadlines for all activities.

3.7. Coordination of various plans in time. In order to more successfully implement their plans, the employee needs to coordinate them with the plans of other people (boss, subordinates, colleagues).

4. Decision making

Decision-making allows the choice of priority tasks and cases. Making a decision means setting a priority. The main problem of leaders is that they try to do too much work at once and disperse their forces into separate, often insignificant, but seemingly necessary tasks.

The order of tasks execution can be determined using the following criteria and methods:

  • Pareto principle(ratio 80:20). Based on this pattern, we can conclude regarding the working situation of the manager: in the process of work, 20% of the time is spent to achieve 80% of the results. This means that you should not immediately take on the easiest, most interesting or in need of minimum expenses business time. It is necessary to proceed to questions in accordance with their significance and importance;
  • at prioritization through ABC analysis. The technique of this analysis is based on the fact that the percentage shares of more important and less important cases in the sum remain unchanged. With the help of the letters "A", "B" and "C" all works are divided into three groups according to their significance (major, important and non-essential (less important)). ABC analysis is based on three patterns:
  • the most important tasks account for approximately 15% of the total number of cases that the manager deals with. The contribution of this task to the achievement of the final goal is about 65%;
  • important tasks account for about 20% of the total number of cases, the significance of which is also about 20%;
  • less important and unimportant tasks make up about 65% of all cases, and their significance is only about 15%.

To apply ABC analysis, you must follow the following rules: make a list of all future tasks;

  • organize them in order of importance and prioritize;
  • evaluate tasks in accordance with categories A, B, C;
  • tasks of category A the manager must perform himself;
  • category B tasks should be delegated;
  • tasks that remain are subject to mandatory reassignment:
  • Dwight Eisenhower accelerated analysis(President of the United States in 1953 - 1961). This principle is a simple aid in cases where it is necessary to make a quick decision as to which task to give priority to. Priorities are set according to criteria such as urgency and importance of the case. All cases are divided into 4 groups:
  1. Urgent (important things) - they must be carried out by the leader himself;
  2. Urgent (less important matters) - they need to be delegated;
  3. Less urgent (important tasks) - they do not have to be completed immediately, but you need to do them yourself;
  4. 4 Less urgent (less important tasks) - you can refrain from doing them.

Delegation is the key activity of a manager. Delegation in a general sense refers to the transfer of tasks to his subordinate from the sphere of activity of the manager himself, but at the same time the boss retains responsibility for leadership that cannot be delegated. The transfer of a task or activity can be carried out for a long time or limited to one-time assignments. Refusal to delegate leads to an overload of the head, reduces the time required to perform their immediate duties. Delegation helps the manager free up time for a more important task and reduce workload, and also promotes the use of professional knowledge and skills of employees, positively affects the motivation of employees. In order to successfully carry out delegation, it is necessary to choose the right employees, clearly allocate the scope of responsibility, coordinate the execution of the assigned task and monitor the work process and results, prevent an attempt to reverse or next delegation. It is equally important to stimulate and advise subordinates, to evaluate them. Routine work, specialized activities, private matters and preparatory work should be delegated. In no case should you delegate such work as setting a goal, managing employees, a task of a high degree of risk.

5. Implementation and organization

Allows scheduling and organization labor process in order to achieve the set goal. The organization of your working day must meet the basic principle: "The work must obey me, and not vice versa." There are 23 rules that can be divided into 3 groups: rules for the beginning of the day, the main part of the day and the end of the day.

Rules for starting the day:

  1. Start the day with a positive mood;
  2. Start work at the same time whenever possible;
  3. Revisiting the plan of the day drawn up the day before;
  4. First - key tasks;
  5. Proceed without rocking;
  6. Coordinate the plan of the day with the secretary (he will work more efficiently and will be able to protect the leader from unnecessary obstacles);
  7. In the morning, do complex and important things, because later the manager is usually busy with current affairs.

Rules for the main part of the day:

  1. Logical work preparation;
  2. To influence the fixation of deadlines in their own interests;
  3. Recheck the entire range of works in terms of the need for individual works;
  4. Reject additionally arising urgent problem;
  5. Avoid unplanned impulsive actions;
  6. Pause in time and keep a measured pace;
  7. Perform small homogeneous tasks in a series (in this case, preparation is carried out only once and for a certain time the leader is engaged in homogeneous activities; due to continuity and concentration on the process, time is saved;
  8. It is rational to complete what has been started (distraction and the next return to work require some time, therefore the work begun must either be completed or interrupted at the right time);
  9. Use unplanned time slots for preparatory or routine activities;
  10. Work counter-cyclically (i.e. at the beginning of the day it is more appropriate to engage in the most important tasks, and in a more restless period - less important matters);
  11. Find a quiet time to recuperate;
  12. Control time and plans.

Rules for the end of the working day:

  1. Finish the small things you started;
  2. Control over results and self-control;
  3. Make a plan for the next day;
  4. Every day should have its climax.

6. Control

Control over the results serves to improve, and in the ideal case, optimize the work process. All of the self-management functions listed above will not be as effective if appropriate controls are not carried out. Control covers three tasks:

  • comprehension of the physical state;
  • comparison of what was planned with what has been achieved;
  • adjustment but established deviations.

It is necessary to regularly, at regular intervals, check your plans and organization of work, analyze your activities and your time, and draw up a list of daily obstacles. In any case, control over the results of labor should be carried out after the task is completed. Anyone who wants to truly relieve himself cannot give up self-control.

7. Information and communication

This is the most important phase because every other phase needs it. Every day, a manager is bombarded with a flood of information that he has to deal with. In real life, the manager processes much more information than is necessary for effective work. In order to save time, the manager needs to develop a rational approach to obtaining, processing and using information.

And further...

Business people often complain that there are only 24 hours in a day. It is simply impossible to manage everything planned in a day, even if you negotiate via a conference call and do makeup while standing in a traffic jam. In addition, negotiations and makeup are not always successful. Anyone can be blamed for failures. Or you can learn self-management, that is, the art of managing your time and resources with maximum efficiency. Then it turns out that in the day there is time not only for sleep, but even for sports and recreation.

Myths about self-management

Many people know or at least heard about what self-management is today. With the fact that managing yourself, your time and resources is useful and correct, many also agree. But for some reason, those people who are always late, do not know which of their twenty things to grab onto, are still more than punctual and confident. These unfortunates always find a lot of reasons why they don’t have time for anything, and, most importantly, they don’t want to learn how to keep up. But, as it turns out, these are just myths that are dispelled by specialists as easily as they are invented by those who do not want to control themselves.

Myth #1. “Self-management is necessary only for leaders. Here I will become the boss - I will learn "

You won't if you don't change that belief. After all, the main goal of self-management is to make the most of one’s own capabilities, consciously manage the course of one’s life and overcome external circumstances, that is, to achieve results and improve the quality of one’s life.

Therefore, self-management is important not only for an ordinary employee of the company, but also for any person in principle. Self-management allows you to achieve your goals in life and feel that life does not pass you by. Self-management as a toolkit is important for everyone who wants to achieve success in life, regardless of their status. However, for top managers, self-management is even more important, since the achievement of the company's goals depends on their work.

Self-management is often perceived as strict obedience to a schedule that still needs to be thought through and drafted. Therefore, the lack of clarity in their actions is explained by many as unwillingness to submit themselves to the schedule, especially when it comes to working outside the office, freelancing. But self-management involves more than just scheduling your time. Self-management is the ability to manage oneself, to manage the management process in the broadest sense of the word - in time, in space, in communication, in the business world. To be organized, whether it is for the space around you or your time, is to be prepared. This allows you to feel collected, in control of the situation, to be ready to use all available opportunities and cope with any surprises and surprises.

Myth #2. “Self-management should be used only when it is necessary - when managing a complex project or working in emergency mode. At other times I don't need it."

This statement is not entirely true, if only because the acquisition of any skill at first causes a decline in productivity. Thus, the period of a complex project is not the best time to experiment. Ideally, self-management is a habit and a lifestyle. But not everyone is ready for this. Self-management can really be used as a tool during some difficult project or emergency situation. But if it helps to achieve results in the most difficult situations, why not use it always?

In addition, it is worth considering that self-management is a skill that cannot be acquired instantly at the right moment. It's like knowing foreign language: you either speak Chinese or you don’t, and you don’t have to think that when you meet a Chinese, competent speech will flow by itself. And just as the language is forgotten without practice, the ability to control oneself disappears if it is not used.

Myth #3. “Self-management cannot be learned”

As the heroine Lia Akhedzhakova said in the film “Office Romance”: “Even a hare can be taught to smoke, and even more so for a reasonable person, nothing is impossible.” Experts assure that you can learn self-management with the help of special courses or on your own. Courses are more suitable for training company employees, which are best done in a corporate format so as not to create an artificial separation of employees. And self-management can definitely be learned on your own by reading relevant books, both theoretical, which describe standards and techniques, and biographies and autobiographies of great people, which describe the stories of people who have achieved outstanding results.

At the same time, you need to remember that self-management is a very personal thing. Of the dozens of suggested tips, a person should choose only those that are right for him, and make them work for him. Learning to manage time is not a task for a weak person.

Myth number 4. "I just can't bring myself to be more organized"

AT this case"I can't" is the same as "I don't want to". While the jeans are barely fitting, the diet will be postponed "until Monday." When the jeans come apart at the seams at a responsible event, the diet will start right there and will not seem so painful. Also, dismissal due to another failure of all deadlines can be an excellent motivation to engage in self-management. But, of course, this is not worth it. It is better to find motivation earlier.

Where to look for it? To begin with, answer the question: “Do I love what I do?” If the answer is no, you won't find motivation. But the “foothold” can be found, for example, by remembering what you always liked or did best. Building oneself is possible just through the development of “favorite” competencies. It can also happen this way: what you really would like to do, you do not know how to do. In this case, you will have to start, most likely, from the starting positions. But sometimes it is more effective to find resources for reorientation, while remaining in the current place. In this case, plan your working week so that it has at least 10 hours that you can devote exclusively to yourself.

Self-management helps not only achieve your business goals, but also just find time for yourself. Is the desire to go in for sports, drawing, go to Madagascar, see friends more often, that is, find time for your favorite activities and recreation, is not a sufficient motivation for this? As well as the desire, for example, to give mom an expensive gift from the first high salary, which will certainly become such when you learn how to effectively manage yourself.

Knowledge and skills of self-management are necessary for applicants in the process of employment and at other stages of career development. Personnel management services of state and commercial organizations should pay more attention to the development of self-management skills of employees in the process of career management. The best form of education is training and business games during which students acquire and improve practical self-management skills. In addition, it is necessary to look for new information-intensive technologies for the implementation of the educational process.

It is safe to say that self-management skills will help people not make mistakes in professional choice and achieve certain career heights.

Among the immutable truths is that, according to which a person, no matter how high he climbs the ladder of Life, always sees from his place the one who is closer to the top than he is. And no matter how low a person sinks and retreats, he will never stand on the last step, below which no one would stand.

Anyone who pays his employees with peanuts should not be surprised to be surrounded by screaming chimpanzees.

Climbing the career ladder, make sure that you do not slip a stepladder.

The higher the position of a person, the more stringent should be the framework that restrains the willfulness of his character.

When you want to climb up, rely on your own feet.

In higher positions, as well as in too high places, people are subject to vertigo.

Having a conscience is the main obstacle to a career.

It is not the difficulties of growth that are frightening, but the growth of difficulties.

To profit without risk, to gain experience without danger, to be rewarded without working, is as impossible as to live without being born.

I was good while climbing.

Nothing is easier than being busy, and nothing is harder than being productive.

If you want to start straight from the top of your profession, invent your own profession.

Did you go up the hill? But the smart one will not go uphill!

To make a career, you should dress in all gray, keep in the background and not take the initiative.

In our time, the true symbol of the social status of a high-ranking African is a white driver.

We may appear important in a position that is below our dignity, but we often appear insignificant in a position that is too high for us.

It is always better to be not a winner, but a loser, a victim. The thing is, I've always felt like a failure. Always, throughout my career.

Scapegoats are the best guarantors of bosses' careers.

When a woman's productivity increases, men's interest in her decreases.

There are people who make a career. And nothing else.

A person should go about his business as if he had nowhere to look for help.

Most the best workers they are not suitable for the highest positions, but they are good in secondary roles.

Whoever has stuck in the rank of a fox, he will be in the rank of a wolf.

Women rise through the ranks not with their feet, but with their whole body.

The higher one rises, the more lonely one becomes.

And a fool can be successful if there is a demand for stupidity.

Having ascended to the pinnacle of success, you may not meet a single one there.

If anything is worth doing, it's worth doing for the money.

Getting a job is harder than staying in it.

The only profession in which they start right from the very top is digging holes.

If you carry a marshal's baton in your knapsack, equip the knapsack with a double bottom.

Hard work is the key to success!

Is that so?

Hard work is a dangerous myth. Hard work falsely justifies a person in front of himself, family, employees. To reproach such a person for insufficient results is supposedly unfair to offend. After all, look how hard he works.

But don’t you think that, on the contrary, you need to have a negative attitude towards people who work hard.

They are lazy, they don't want to do a small amount of really hard, really efficient work, but prefer to do a lot of dull, familiar work.

The second reason for workaholism is vanity. I work harder, so I'm better than you.

The third reason is the desire to get rid of disturbing thoughts in work. For this, the alcoholic drinks until he collapses from intoxication, the workaholic works until he falls from fatigue.

Everyone remembers Stakhanov, doesn't he? Of course, this is sedition, and now they will throw me over ... but ...

Was it necessary to work so much? Stakhanov is definitely not. But upstairs, it was profitable. It distracted people from heavy thoughts. After all, it was enough to spend resources on the invention coal combine and build it, all heroic records would be broken within an hour. But no. I had to work hard...

Nothing is easier than being busy, and nothing is harder than being productive.(Allen Mackenzie)

Someone is like a squirrel in a wheel all day long, and someone manages to do everything in 4 hours of work. Think you need to add work to it? It is impossible, then he will lose efficiency and will do the same work longer.

If we are focused on results, this does not suit us.

If a person claims that he is insanely busy, then he is ineffective, or he is being exploited mercilessly.

Here is the case with the Ford Corporation.

Ford invited the inspectors to his place. There are organizations in the West that check whether everything is organized correctly, compare it with science ...

They are far from practice, but they know the theory perfectly well. They are listened to.

The inspectors came and poked their fingers. Come to the report. They say that everything seems to be normal, but on the 3rd floor we went into the office, and there a man is sitting with a cigar in his mouth, his feet on the table and sipping whiskey. I do not know what position, but he urgently needs to be fired.

Ford started up and says? Did you accidentally distract him? No (bewildered). And don't be distracted, the last time he acted like this, we made several million off his idea.

This story is in all management textbooks, I told it from memory. Maybe a little fib, but the meaning remained.

great as always =)

cool story about ford

From the category:
- "How, so much money for just one hit with a hammer?"
- "No, it's only $1 for hitting with a hammer, and another $999 for knowing WHERE to hit."

And if the case, then you should not have a negative attitude towards people who work hard, because everyone has their own completely different reasons for this, not necessarily all of them are lazy.

Oh yes, Ford. He once said, I don’t remember verbatim, but the essence is as follows: “I will never instruct on principle new project to a professional - he will prove to me in no time that this is impossible; but the beginner does not know this, and therefore will succeed."

The article is great. My boss is a workaholic, and he made me the same. Similar thoughts sometimes visit. Write more author!

I once got a job new job in big firm 2 months had to learn the materials, join the team. I took up this matter responsibly and studied everything that I was assigned according to the plan and passed the screening tests every day ahead of schedule, after a week of work, my head of the sector comes up to me in order to find out what and how and sees what I have OH HORROR! the ICQ window flashes in the taskbar (he personally told me to install and use ICQ on the very first day after taking it) and began to scold me about this, saying that I was doing the wrong thing. And to my question - "you say that you need a result, I give it to you, but ICQ does not interfere with my teaching. And now, an hour later, I'm already in the negotiation room with the beginning of the sector and the director, listening to how bad and irresponsible I am, and after I dared to open my mouth to express my version, I was asked to write a statement :)
So know% username%, if they want a result from you, then this is not a guarantee that you correctly understood what they want from you :)

Well, don't make conspiracy theories. It’s just that the bosses generally don’t care about the result, as a rule, if it’s not the owner of the business ... And even if the owner, anything happens in our country and it’s not a fact that it is clever man capable of accomplishment. It's possible that the only thing he did was to be born into the right family.

It's just how we do it.
Square nest method.
I don't need it fast, I need you to hesitate.

However, you shouldn't lump it all together.
What the hell are cars? We still have miners extracting coal.
What the hell are the results? Do you want to see your provider's support? Who will connect you, Ford?

Yes, and the simplest heavy professions - loaders, builders. Yes, the same budgetary doctors, teachers and police officers? How are they? Do you need someone who will carry food in the supermarket, treat you and protect you? Not? Excellent. Blow on a desert island, and there talk about success. And these people will do hard work, because we need it.

The authorities really need smart people, but no one will allow you to be smart. Each employee has job descriptions. According to them, he should work, no additional gestures. The only thing that is welcome is the simplification of the operations that it performs. And then, after the coordination and approval of new job descriptions.
The job description is made up of many years of experience, both in this organization and in similar ones. Even if it seems to be done differently, this misconception is a common lack of information.
It is very laborious to explain to everyone why this is so, so there are instructions. And the more detailed they are, the better.
And those who are clever and do it their own way are more of a hindrance in the end. It even has a name. Corporate terrorist.

Yes, it's Henry Ford. The one who was proud and talked about it, that he was able to gather people around him, many times smarter than himself. The one that was the first to use the conveyor, the one that was the first to come up with the V-engine. There was also an interesting story. I don’t remember how long, but for a long time, his engineers came to the report and talked. Damn, it's impossible to arrange the pistons like that. What Ford said - but I SHOULD. In the end, they did what he needed to do.
Of course, all this was done by his team. But, as a leader, it is he who is responsible for successes and especially for failures.

I remembered:
One evening Rutherford went into the laboratory. Although the time was late, one of his many students was bending over the instruments in the laboratory. - What are you doing so late? Rutherford asked. "I'm working," came the reply. - What do you do during the day? “I work, of course,” answered the student. - Do you work early in the morning too? - Yes, professor, and I work in the morning, - the student confirmed, counting on praise from the lips of the famous scientist. Rutherford grew gloomy and asked irritably: - Listen, when do you think?

"Do what you love, the money will follow."
O. Holmes

Nothing is easier than being busy and nothing is harder than being Productive.”
Alan Mackenzie

Today I would like to talk about achieving success, as well as reveal some of the wrong, stereotypical ideas about how to become a wealthy person without compromising your own family, inner satisfaction, health and other important components of life.

I decided to talk about this because I often see this one, repeated over and over again delusion - first to earn money (work or business), and then do what is your favorite thing, purpose, mission on earth.

On the Internet today you can find many references about this misconception - training programs, the purpose of which sounds like this: “We contribute to the personal development of a person. To do this, you need: the first is to create a business from scratch, the second is to do what you love, after the business begins to bring tangible income.

Exactly the same goal for many who are engaged today network marketing. They say so: “I will make money now, and then I will start doing what I like, what I love.”

And everything seems to be fine. But when the cart is ahead of the horse, then it is very, very difficult to ride it, although it is possible. And in these ideas - first money, then a favorite thing - everything is exactly like that.

Now I will try to explain everything.

I'll start with this.

First.

Surely everyone knows that money does not fall from the sky, and in general, today money itself is just an idea. Money today is just pieces of paper, not backed by anything (as before - gold), which we ourselves agreed to consider as something valuable.

The fact that money is, in a sense, just “wrappers” has already been proven to us more than once in our country.

So. Money is the result of a job well done. From this it is clear that it is the business that is primary, and not the money itself.

The better, better, on a larger scale we do this very thing, the more money we get for it. This is elementary and, I hope, understandable to everyone.

The definition of "better, better, bigger" - what we get rewarded in the form of money for - can also be replaced by one phrase that sounds like this - more professional. Or masterfully. Surely you have heard such a definition - a master of his craft.

The more professionals, masters of the craft we are, the more money we will have.

But attention!

Today in Russia, according to statistics, there are no more than 3% of highly qualified specialists! So where can abundance and security come from, if we have only a few Masters! We have an amateur sitting on an amateur and driving like an amateur. And we say: "There is no money." No skill, no money. Where amateurism rules, there will never be money. This needs to be understood.

Second.

It is important to understand that it is impossible to achieve professionalism, to become a master, in someone else's business. You can become a master only in your field, in the sphere of your talent, your predisposition, in the sphere that is interesting and beloved for us.

After all, that's what we say - a master of his craft! Not a master of someone else's work, namely his own! There are, of course, “masters” of someone else’s business, but that’s what we call those who interfere in their own business and, not knowing anything themselves, give out stupid advice right and left, and even criticize those who are busy with their own business. “Master of someone else’s work” is already the definition of a talker and a dunce.

So, you can become a Master only in your own business.

This also does not require proof, since it is elementary - you cannot become a pro in something that is not initially interesting to you. You can, of course, rape yourself and force yourself to grow and develop, but one day this “suitcase without a handle” will get bored to the point of impossibility.

And how in general do you see yourself growing in what you have no abilities and in which there is no interest ?!

It's like planting a palm tree in the North, and throwing a penguin into Africa! Even if they survive, then imagine how much resources you need to spend on this!!!

And, at the same time, the same palm trees somewhere in the south grow and bear fruit almost absolutely without any additional costs!

EASY, FREE, BEAUTIFUL, EFFECTIVE AND PRODUCTIVE!

Those who are going to first just do business, and then look for their own business and do it, are at great risk of being in the role of a penguin in Africa. I already talked about this in the article “Don't be a penguin in Africa”.

The wisest and richest King Solomon once said: “Whoever cultivates his own land will be satisfied with bread” and also: “Someone else's good will take away the life of the one who owns it.”

Let me emphasize again!

Only in your favorite business can you become a Master and have absolutely full support for your work.

When we try to do something that is not our own, we pretend to be someone else's. And this alien always brings us only problems - it takes life. A happy, joyful, life of love and satisfaction, in general, an abundant life. And it happens that this alien takes away physical life, leading to loss of health and even death.

Indeed, today it is full, for example, of businessmen who, thanks to their business, have acquired financial well-being but who have lost their family, health, joy and, in general, the meaning of life. Here is an example of how someone else's business takes life.

And in general!

Today, thousands of people go to work they hate. Well, how will a business differ in something other than its own business - the same work that you will hate very soon, despite the great security. The same slavery, only with a more expensive entourage. We have more than enough letters with such testimonies...

Besides!

A person who starts a business that is not in his line of business runs the risk of remaining an amateur. After all, for example, having earned money, he remained a nobody. Time - which is the most precious - was spent on pieces of paper that can disappear in an instant, and he never became a Master. As he was part of a faceless gray mass, he remained so. Unless he began to eat more expensive sausage, but he already wore pants with a well-known label. Moreover, this label is known only among the same "authoritative" people as he himself ...

That is why we propose to immediately determine the scope of one’s own giftedness and personal predisposition (this, by the way, is not difficult), and it is in one’s own area to create a business, a business that will provide, and will be happy, and will bring benefits to people (the master of everything does it at the highest level!

Look:

1. You, doing what you love, enjoy the process itself and get great inner satisfaction.

2. You have full financial security from your business.

3. You contribute to society and feel your own importance in society.

How do you like this scenario? Isn't it good?

Here is your happy life!

After all, what is happiness?

This is doing what you love, getting good money for it, and feeling your own need and significance!

As a sketch and example.

I remember that from an early age I wanted to be somebody. At that time I didn’t know what I would do in my life at all, but I knew one thing and wanted it exactly and specifically - I wanted to be a pro, I wanted to be very good at doing what I would do later.

After leaving school, I went to work as a car mechanic, although many tried to persuade me to enter a university. But since in those circles that surrounded me, being educated was considered "a bastard" (I apologize if someone's hearing was hurt :-). I am not at all against learning - only FOR. The main thing is to be useful.), then I just went to work where I was drawn at that time. And I was drawn to technology.

Today, looking back, I am immensely glad that this is exactly what happened then, and I escaped many of the “dead” stereotypical life attitudes that would have been instilled in me. This was subsequently greatly facilitated by my further very serious life problems, "thanks" to which I went "where my eyes look."

So at the age of 22 I ended up in the North. First BAM, then gold mines. You can talk a lot about life there and maybe someday I will describe all this in my memoirs :-), but now I am telling all this for this reason.

By the age of 27 I had become a master in the field of engine repair. I had authority - men who had been locksmiths for 30 years came to me for advice - I had influence, and I had a lot of money. And all this thanks to the fact that I became a pro in my then business.

And attention!
All this did not take decades.

For this it took:

1. Constantly "dig" and study everything that was related to the repair of engines

2. Hard and constant practice

The first point I began to deal with as soon as after school I went to work in a car depot. I bought all kinds of books, disassembled circuits, studied the device of the units I needed.

The second point was provided to me by life itself, having thrown me to the North. And if at BAM I had to develop my practical skills in emergency repair, then in the artel this training mode was just on the verge - what is called the “death zone”.

There, no one was interested in my want, I can, or “maybe it will work out.” There, my diesels had to work like clockwork. If they stopped, the gold panning stopped, and then everyone just started to go berserk, because there is no gold - there is no future profit. There, they could accidentally kill :-). So I had to become a master of my craft in a super-accelerated mode.

In this scenario, time - the third component - works for us, and not against us, as when doing business that is not in our business.

Here is the formula for you:

Constantly Study the Sphere of Personal Interests and Qualities + Constant Reinforced Practice + Time =
SKILL AND SECURITY

Moreover, the harder the practice, the less time is needed for the arrival of skill and security. If we begin to feel sorry for ourselves, or demand this pity from others, then time needs a wagon and a small cart...

There is one more thing I would like to mention.

The provision of life depends on how precise actions we perform. This is also called efficiency. Get maximum results with minimum cost.

But efficiency itself cannot be increased without the ability to think strategically.

That is, to be able to see not only what is under the nose, but to see far ahead. The further we see, the better we understand what needs to be done and how to do it. After all, you must admit that you can develop crazy speed, but if this is the speed of a squirrel in a wheel, then the only thing that is guaranteed to us is fatigue and dizziness ... but, unfortunately, not from success.

An ordinary average person cannot think strategically, he was not accustomed to this.

A gray, faceless little man cannot think at all and therefore is not able to distinguish the main from the secondary. Something that is guaranteed to lead to success and security from the fact that again and again it will turn for the hundredth circle around its own axis.

This lesson was taught to me there in the artel in the very first year of my heroic labor :-).

From the very beginning of my appearance there, I was put in charge of the repair and maintenance of diesel engines working on gold panning. It was one of the most critical places at the mine - as I said earlier, stopping the diesel engine stopped the washing of gold, and the washing itself was carried out in only 3-6 places.

I didn’t know the diesel engine that stood there, not only practically, but even theoretically - I had never encountered them before. I had to learn everything on the go - there was no time for "study".

The flushing itself began somewhere in mid-May, when the soil began to thaw. And before that date, a total repair of all equipment was carried out, which was to work for full wear and tear almost non-stop in the coming season.

So. My first spring came at the mine and my first repaired diesel engine was put on a flushing device, launched, and the “ribbon cut” lay in a “box” waiting for gold.

A couple of days after the launch, the miner Stepanych, who had already spent half his life at the gold mines, came to pick me up - something in the diesel engine needed to be fixed, and we went to the device. Diesel, contrary to my expectations, worked, and no one was going to turn it off for my inspection. Stepanych went on business only to him, and I stayed in the tordokha (Yakut log house) waiting for the diesel to be turned off so that I could take care of it.

An hour passed, a second passed, the device was washing gold, and I was already starting to get nervous - it seemed to me that I was just wasting time, while in the motorboat I had so much other work left. At three o'clock Stepanych appeared, and I ran into him, demanding to be taken back to the village, because. there, allegedly, because of him, my work is worth it.

After listening to me, Stepanych very "scientifically" and even more popularly explained to me that no one asks me, a goldfinch, and that I will sit here as long as necessary, and if I do not stop whining and whining about my "work", then I will have very serious problems. In general, Stepanych insulted me to the point of impossibility :-).

An hour later, the diesel engine was turned off, I fixed everything within 15 minutes, and they took me back to the village. Half the day, it seemed to me, was wasted.

And only after a while, after I saw and understood - for what exactly we are paid such a lot of money - not for the work itself, but for the result in the form of gold - the difference between my then actions and the actions of Stepanych began to reach me.

What is valid for the end result watch is more important spend on waiting and work for 15 minutes, but the gold will go to the "bins" rather than work hard in another place, while mining is stopped.

After all, both in the motorboat and on the device were the same diesel engines. But the difference between them is this moment was huge - one influenced the final result, and the second might not even be needed this season.

I began to understand how the main things differ from the secondary ones, and that it is from them, and not from the number of secondary cases, that the result and reward depend. And that it is much more important to be in anticipation of the main thing and do it exactly than to be very busy secondary, on which little depends. Then the reward will surely find you!

But in order to receive this reward in the form of a successful and prosperous life, you need to clearly see the perspective and understand what exactly and what actions lead you to it - to your Goal.

What do I wish for all of you, my dears!

0. Introduction: Manage your own time - but with a method

"There is nothing easier than being busy and nothing more difficult than being productive" Alan Mackenzie

"And where did my time go?" - groans another manager under the burden of work and stress. We all know this problem. More and more people are getting into trouble. But not so much work overload, how much the inability to plan their time forces many managers to spend at the desk 60 hours a week (or maybe more?).

The manager's overload is a consequence of the intersection of his many tasks. Often, many issues need to be addressed at once. Consequence: priorities are chosen incorrectly, secondary matters are not delegated (not delegated), the manager's behavior, it turns out, is too dependent on the events of the day, he is distracted by secondary matters.

What is self-management!

Self-management is the consistent and purposeful use of proven methods of work in daily practice in order to make optimal and meaningful use of one's time. The methods described in this book should help you achieve your professional and personal goals.

The main goal of self-management is to make the most of your own capabilities, consciously manage the course of your life (self-determination) and overcome external circumstances both at work and in your personal life. This book is primarily about how to transform a situation that is characterized by disorderly work and the fulfillment of tasks due to external circumstances into a situation of expedient and achievable tasks.

Even if various tasks and requests “fall down” on you from all sides and work constantly overwhelms you, thanks to consistent time planning and the use of methods of scientific organization of labor, you will be able to better carry out your activities, carve out a daily reserve of time (including for leisure) and to be freed up for really managerial functions.

The saying of the ancient navigators says: “I sail not as the wind blows, but as I set a sail!” Many managers are too process oriented; on the usefulness of the action, and too weakly on ultimate goal, i.e. performance, as evidenced by the following comparison.

Many managers prefer:
- do things right instead of doing the right things;
- solve problems instead of creating creative alternatives;
- save money instead of optimizing the use of funds;
- to fulfill the duty instead of achieving results;
- reduce costs instead of increasing profits.

The following questionnaire should help you to imagine, as a first approximation, the style of work you have practiced so far. If you score less than 20 points, then this should not discourage you. You just need to use your energy to eliminate weak points. This will already be the first step towards consistent self-management!

The aspects covered in the ten questions of the questionnaire are discussed in detail in each of the following chapters.
Self-management: how well do you do your job?
Self-esteem in points: 0 - almost never; 1 - sometimes; 2 - often; 3 - almost always.
1. I reserve time at the beginning of the working day for preparatory work, planning.
2. I delegate everything that can be delegated.
3. I write down the tasks and goals in writing, indicating the timing of their implementation.
4. Everyone official document I try to process at one time and finally.
5. Every day I make a to-do list, sorted by priority. I do the most important things first.
6. I try to free my working day as much as possible from extraneous telephone conversations, unscheduled visitors and unexpectedly called meetings.
7. I try to distribute my daily load in accordance with my work schedule.
8. There are “windows” in my time plan that allow me to respond to current issues.
9. I try to direct my activity in such a way as to primarily focus on a few "vital" problems.
10. I can say “no” when others want to claim my time, and I need to do more important things.

If you now sum up the scores you scored on your working style test, you will get the following results:
- 0-15 points: You do not plan your time and are at the mercy of external circumstances. You achieve some of your goals if you make a list of priorities and stick to it.
- 16-20 points: You try to master your time, but you are not always consistent enough to be successful.
- 21-25 points: You have good self-management.
- 26-30 points: You can serve as a model for anyone who wants to learn how to manage their time wisely. Let the people around you (including the author of this book) share your experience.

Start by improving yourself! Everything will be easier, more realistic and more successful if you do not convince others of the benefits of your activities and methods, but become better and more efficient yourself.

Ten benefits of self-management:
1. Get the job done with less.
2. Best Organization labor.
3. The best results of labor.
4. Less haste and stress.
5. More Satisfaction from work.
6. Great motivation labor.
7. Growth of qualification.
8. Less workload.
9. Fewer errors in the performance of their functions. 10. Achieving professional and life goals in the shortest way.

Your biggest advantage is obviously that you use and save your The scarcest and most important resource is your TIME! If you don't have time, work through this book so you have time!

With the consistent study of individual chapters, you will learn:
- rationally use the time at your disposal;
- think in goal-setting categories and work in accordance with goals;
- with the help of planning gain self-confidence and get rid of stress;
- daily achieve success and carve out free time (at least one hour). What will you do with your daily time gain?
