1. Assembling a critical mass of components. PET bottle. Standard screw with inch thread for mounting photo and video equipment. A screw from the casing of old Soviet film cameras is very suitable. The groove on the screw between the thread and the cap will allow it to be conveniently fixed on the cork. Depending on the length of the screw, washers will be required if necessary, in my case there are only two pieces.

2. We drill a hole in the plastic bottle cap with a diameter of 4.3 mm. I drilled with a 4mm drill, and then increased the diameter of the hole with it.

3. We screw the screw into the hole in the cover from the outside, cutting the thread. If the screw freely passes into the hole, this is acceptable, but in field conditions this is fraught with the loss of the main fastener.

4. Unscrew the screw. We put the washers inside the cover and screw the screw from the inside.

5. We fasten the cover to the standard hole for mounting the camera. If it is not possible to attach tightly, washers must be added.

6. We take a bottle, to make it heavier, we put sand or small stones inside 1/2 or 2/3, in extreme cases, you can pour water, the heavier the bottle, the more stable the tripod will be.

7. We close the bottle with a cap with an attached camera - the tripod is ready.

The bottle can be attached to trees and other vertical objects with rubber bands.

In field conditions, it is enough to take only a cap with a screw with you (this is the head of a photo tripod;)), I think there will be no problems finding a suitable bottle.

How to make a DIY bike camera mount


The site published a method for making a simple photo tripod from a plastic bottle. But the original design of the tripod head makes it possible to fix the camera on various objects, for example, on a bicycle, thereby making a cheap alternative to action cameras like GoPro.

The sequence of actions for retrofitting a bicycle is given below.

1. Take a PET bottle. It is enough to take a bottle with a capacity of 0.25 liters. Moreover, the thinner the walls of the bottle, the tighter the mount on the steering wheel will sit.

2. Cut off the bottom of the bottle with scissors or a knife. We work carefully so as not to cut ourselves.

3. Cut the PET bottle into 5-7 sectors, and cut through to dense plastic in the neck area.

4. For better flexibility of the resulting sectors, we additionally cut each sector into two or three more strips. We cut the strips before the sector narrows.

5. We wrap reinforced tape on the steering wheel at the place where the homemade camera mount bracket is installed, electrical tape is also suitable. Winding is necessary to prevent possible sliding of the structure on the steering wheel.

6. We orient the future mount according to the angle of inclination to the horizon, I mount it with a slight slope to the ground.

7. Consistently, first, with the help of pieces of adhesive tape, we attach the workpiece with two strips stretched along the steering wheel. Then we attach the strips wrapped around the steering wheel. We do not fasten all the strips. We fix only those strips that give tight contact with the attachment point. In this version, only five strips are screwed.

8. Cut off excess strips and protruding ends.

9. For beauty, we wrap the attachment point with tape or tape.

10. We fasten the head to the camera and install the camera on a bracket made by ourselves. Orienting the shooting direction.

Steel bars can be taken from an old printer. AT this case it was an HP device. The tubes must be removed and cut into pieces 12 cm long.

Step 1. On the board, draw a circle with a radius of 3 cm. Then draw another one, but with a radius of 5 cm. The center of the two figures should coincide.

Step 2. Break the circles into three parts by drawing radii. In the interval between the small and large circle, stepping back 1 cm on both sides of the drawn radii, draw one more line.

Step 3. Attach another thinner board to the marking board. On it, draw a small rectangle 2 cm wide. Step back another 5 cm from it and draw a straight line across the board.

Step 4. Cut out the details of the future tripod, according to the markup. Sand them down.

Step 5. Drill threaded holes for the screws in the places where the parts of the tripod are fastened with a drill. Work very carefully. Assemble the prepared parts of the product together.

Step 6. Cut the pen cases into two parts: large and small. Fasten them to opposite ends of the steel rod.

Step 7. Paint the wooden part of the tripod with wood paint or stain, varnish. Leave everything until the coating is completely dry.

Step 8. Attach the prepared steel rods to the underside of the wooden fasteners. Make markings for the bolts, drill holes for them and assemble the entire structure.

Step 9. Take a 3 x 6 cm aluminum plate and bend it into a "U" shape. Drill one hole each from the sides and the top of the plate. Make another one at the top of the tripod. Using a bicycle brake mount, bolt, nuts and washers, assemble the structure shown in the photo.

When photographing, there is always a risk of getting a blurry picture. This is especially true when using cameras without image stabilization at night or indoors with poor lighting. At longer focal lengths, shaking is even more likely.

The best solution is to use a tripod, but it is bulky and if you are just going for a walk, you do not want to carry extra weight. Especially if you took compact camera. Without rope tripod

When I started this project, I wanted to make a device that could replace two or three devices that are usually found in a photographer's backpack. My project eventually culminated in the creation of a flexible camera stand, which I will simply refer to as "flexible stand".



The stand is based on 90 centimeters of annealed super-flexible copper wire, at each end of which there is a screw for mounting the camera. All of this is housed in a vinyl tube that keeps the wire clean and safe, plus it has a soft surface that feels comfortable when bending/unfolding the mount. This tool can replace many other photo tools, including:

  • Standard tripod - form a base from the wire and bend one end up, then install the camera.
  • Selfie Stick - Bend one end of the flexible stand into a loop and wrap it around your arm or wrist. Attach the camera to the other end of the gooseneck and bend that end to your desired angle for a premium selfie.
  • Shoulder (swivel) camera mount - you can wrap 90 cm soft copper around anything and secure your camera just about anywhere.

Among other things, the flexible stand rolls up into a very small piece that is easy to take when traveling and can be easily wrapped around your wrist as you move from one place to another.

Step 1: What You'll Need

Step 2: Design


It takes only a little effort to understand how to assemble a tripod for a camera with your own hands. Assembly is simple, but takes time combing through local home improvement stores. From my previous projects, I know that there is a huge selection of large diameter copper wire in stores and that copper is very flexible especially when fired.

Adding the threads directly to the wire proved a little tricky, and I ended up making a sandwich inside a vinyl tube, with copper wire on one end and a bolt on the other to match the camera threads, over which I put a coupler to hold the joint together. To further strengthen the design, I filled the connection area with epoxy. Check out the picture above to get an idea of ​​how the whole connection comes together in life.

Aside from the mechanics of putting the components together, I also had to decide on the length of the makeshift tripod. I settled on 90 cm, which I felt was the sweet spot between being so long that you could wrap the wire around things and use it as a selfie stick, and so short that you could easily roll it up and store it in your bag or pocket. pants.

Step 3: Burn the Copper Wire



The first step in making a mini holder is to fire the copper wire. If you are not familiar with the firing process, then its essence is to relax the metal by heating and cooling. When firing copper, you must heat it to a dull red color and then quickly lower it into water. This allows you to weaken the crystal structure of copper, making it more flexible. When you heat the copper, be sure to hold it with something like a vise, as the copper wire quickly conducts heat from the torch to your hand.

Note: If you don't have a torch, you can skip this step, as copper is already quite soft when you buy it from the store. Firing simply makes the copper as soft as possible, making the device easier to use and more durable.

Step 4: Clean the Copper Wire




After firing, the copper wire will be covered with a layer of oxide, a quick cleaning with steel wool soaked in alcohol will give the copper its original appearance. At this point, for ease of threading the copper into the vinyl tube, I straightened it out. To do this, I fixed both ends of the wire in pliers and asked a friend to help me - we stretched the ends in different directions. The pliers left marks on the ends of the wire, which was to my advantage, as the marks provided a good bonding surface for the epoxy that would be used to hold the wires together inside the vinyl tubing.

Step 5: Cut the Vinyl Tube


After the wire was ready, it was necessary to cut the tube to the desired length. The tube insulates the wire, keeping it clean and making the camera stand feel good to the touch. I cut the tube so long that there was an extra 2-3 cm of length left on each end. This length is required to secure the bolt that will be screwed into the chamber. Look at the last photo attached in this step to understand what's what.

Step 6: Put the sleeve on the tube



In this step, we need to put a brass sleeve on the tube. The sleeve will act as a collar, securing the connection between the wire and the bolt from the outside. My couplings were very tight on the tube, so I lubricated them with liquid soap.

Step 7: Cut the Bolts


I bought bolts to match the threads of the camera. All you need to do is cut off the head of the bolt, so take a hacksaw and cut it off, leaving a tail about 3 cm long. 2.5 cm of the bolt will go to the connection, and the remaining 0.5 cm will be screwed into the chamber.

Step 8: Putting All the Components Together




It's time to bring everything into one design. Do it according to the list:

  • Pass the copper wire through the vinyl tube, the tube should be about 2-3 cm longer on each side.
  • Mix the epoxy
  • Fill one end of the tube with epoxy
  • Push 1 of the bolt pieces into the tube through the epoxy. The bolt will push some of the epoxy even deeper and it will secure the wire. Also, some of the epoxy will squeeze out, securing the bolt securely in the tube. Make sure about 0.5 cm of threaded bolts are outside the tube - you will need them to secure the camera.
  • Give the epoxy time to set.
  • Repeat steps 3-5 on the other end of the tube.

Once the epoxy has set, your flexible stand is ready to go!
