Mug craft: do-it-yourself master class from plastic, cardboard and waste material (75 photos). Beautiful mug with polymer clay decor Flying flower mug

Gathering for a birthday, anniversary, corporate party, wedding celebration or other festive event, everyone thinks about choosing a truly useful and versatile gift.

AT recent times it became fashionable to give gifts made by one's own hands. One of the original and budget options that both adults and children will like is a mug with a photo. Today, any citizen of our country, not having special talents and financial resources, will be able to make a unique gift in a single copy at home specifically for this or that solemn occasion and for a specific person.

Equipment, tools and attributes necessary for self-production of photo printing on a mug

Today, a large number of professional companies and individuals offer services such as applying a logo to a mug, plate and other kitchen utensils and household items. However, any person who does not have special talents and experience can cope with this task. It is enough to know some rules and have the necessary attributes at hand.

To apply this or that image on a mug of any size at home, you will need a high-quality mug (preferably light colors and without a pattern, ideally white), a printer with sublimation ink, a decal and a heat press. As a souvenir, an ordinary porcelain mug will not work. For these purposes, you will need ceramic dishes, preferably French trademark Luminarc, which can be purchased at almost every home improvement store. Ceramic mugs are different high quality, strength, do not fade or fade over time. Therefore, the gift will last much longer.

Ways to apply a photo image on a mug at home

1. Prepare your mug: Rinse thoroughly and dry thoroughly. In no case should there be moisture and dust on the dishes. Prepare the heat press and printer by pre-filling it with sublimation ink. Turn on the computer, select the photo image you like and print it on the printer. Then carefully place the printed photo in the heat press and wait for the image to completely roll back on the cup. During the process, carefully monitor that there are no spots, various roughnesses and other defects on the surface. In the case of the correct implementation of the entire procedure, applying a photo using a heat press allows you to get a bright and durable pattern on a mug or other utensils.

2. There is another easy way to put a photo on a mug using a decal. Buying decals and diaries wholesale and retail is not a problem today. To make a unique gift, take a small plate, fill it with water, dip the decal in it and let it steep for six minutes. After that, remove the decal from the liquid and carefully apply it to the ceramic dishes so that the image tightly covers the surface of the mug. Wait until the surface is completely dry. If all actions are correctly performed, the pattern will clearly be transferred to the surface of the dishes. Then put the plate with the decal in a well-heated oven for twelve minutes. Then take it out and let it cool down.

The production of wooden utensils has long passed into the category of exotic occupations. And if earlier in almost every village one could find a master of turning art, now only a few have such rare skills.

At this pace, the production of wooden utensils at home will soon sink into oblivion, but you must admit that I would not want to allow this to happen.

True, there are several methods for the production of dishes without the use of lathe. They are also widely used on an industrial scale.

In the meantime, let's decide what materials and tools you will need to make a beer mug with your own hands without using a lathe.

1. Materials:
- cuttings of natural wood or a wooden board;
- safe glue for wood, applicable for the production of food products;
- water-based wood varnish with a durable waterproof coating or oil;
- glue for processing the inside of the mug, intended, among other things, for the production of dishes.

2.Tools:
- any of the available tools for sawing wood: a miter saw, a circular saw, a chainsaw, an electric jigsaw or a regular hand saw for wood;
- belt sander;
- drill with a cutter equal to the diameter of the mug;
- a grinder with a grinding disc designed for working with wood;
- clamps;
- sandpaper;
- cloth to remove excess glue;
- ruler-gon;
- pencil;
- a pair of patterns corresponding to the outer and inner diameter of the mug.

Step one: material selection

The author used an old wall shelf, which he got for free from a friend. Presumably it was made of Mahogany, so the output could be expected to have a rich and original texture of wood.

He had to cut off the oiled surface of the wood, as it would prevent the parts from sticking together. Especially since the origin of that oil is all doubtful for food purposes.

To work, you will need a solid board of more or less valuable wood. Wood trimmings left over from previous work are also suitable. The main thing is that they should be slightly larger than the final diameter of the beer mug.

Pay special attention to the degree of drying of the wood. In the production of such small items this parameter is almost the key.

The tree must not be damp. It also should not be overdried, since in this case cracks form on the surface.

Avoid areas with knots. They are very difficult to process and generally have completely different properties than the body of the wood.

It will also not be superfluous to pay attention to the smell of the material. Since you will be drinking beer from a mug, you would certainly like to enjoy its aroma. Too strong a smell of wood will interrupt it.

Step Two: Material Pretreatment and Parts Fabrication

All parts made by you for gluing must be perfectly even and smooth. Therefore, carefully plan the boards and sand them using a belt sander.

The use of an angle grinder can cause depressions on the surface, and this prevents the parts from sticking together normally.

The sides of the parts should only slightly exceed the outer diameter of the beer mug. If you leave too much excess, you will have to grind the workpiece for a long time. So pay some attention to measurements.

Sawing parts can be carried out with any tool, including a hand saw. Smooth edges are not so important here, although they will facilitate the grinding process.

So, prepare the parts in such a quantity that they are enough for the height of the mug. Clean them of dust and proceed to the next step.

Step three: gluing the workpiece

If you carefully processed the material, there should be no problems with gluing.

Pay special attention to the choice of glue. Remember that you are working with utensils that come into contact with food.

A particularly malicious composition of the adhesive can easily lead to poisoning, so consult a specialist regarding the composition.

Also, the glue must have exceptional waterproof properties, since the mug will constantly have to be washed.

Apply glue to each of the parts and carefully spread it over the surface of the wood. Gather the squares together and securely fix with clamps.

Excess glue should come out without forming too thick seams. Remove them with a damp, lint-free cloth and leave the workpiece to dry completely at room temperature.

According to the described principle, make a blank for the mug handle.

Step four: making the inner cavity of the mug

At hand, you should have two patterns that would correspond to the outer and inner diameters of the mug. Use cups and glasses as templates to get a perfectly even circle.

Make a markup on the workpiece as shown in the photo below.

Start cutting out the cavity. For this, the author used an electric drill with a cutter of a suitable diameter.

Do not take a small cutter, because no matter how hard you try, you will not be able to process the walls evenly enough.

Before you start cutting out the cavity, securely fix the workpiece so that it does not have the opportunity to move to the side or vibrate, otherwise the whole work will go down the drain.

Make a hole, leaving the bottom plane, and proceed to form the mug.

Step Five: Shape the Mug

He used a grinder with a grinding wheel suitable for working with wood.

Clamp the workpiece securely and do this initial rough sanding before proceeding to the next step.

Step Six: Making the Handle

Make a drawing of a pen on paper and transfer it to the workpiece. Cut out the handle, giving it the desired shape.

Step Seven: Finishing Sanding

Remove the area of the tree where the mug will have a handle. It must be flat.

Use fine sandpaper until the surface is perfectly smooth to the touch.

If you want to give your friends an original author's gift, then try presenting them a mug with a photo. You can choose the idea of a print yourself, taking into account the interests of the person to whom you are going to give the mug. The process of creating such a product is not complicated, having mastered the technology once, you will no longer experience difficulties in the future.

What will be required

A picture or photo printed on a laser printer in a mirror image. Of course, a mug - white is desirable, for starters. But you can also light shades. Water glossy acrylic varnish. Sandpaper with a fine grain. Drain cleaner containing NaOH - to dissolve paper. Brushes, sponges, etc.

A respirator, goggles and gloves will also be needed to protect the respiratory system and skin.

Progress

We print a print with a picture on ordinary office paper, on a color laser printer. We calculate in advance the dimensions of the picture so that it fits on the mug, with such a margin that the lips do not touch the print.

We degrease the mug by any means, let it dry, and then we try on the picture on the mug, a sketch, a kind of rough outline. With a marker we mark from the inside of the mug the place where the varnish is covered. Apply three layers, allowing it to dry completely. That is, it will take one day to process the varnish.

After the last layer of varnish has dried, sand the surface where the varnish is applied until a matte, even surface is obtained. Then we start processing the image with varnish. We apply the varnish in one layer, carefully, but not abundantly, just to saturate the picture. The surface of the mug, where there will be gluing, is also varnished.

Then we stick the picture on the mug, carefully align it, squeeze out the bubbles so that the picture fits tightly and evenly on the mug. Then let the picture dry for 6 hours.

materials

1) tea or coffee pair (cup and saucer)

2) glue for connecting the "pouring" design with a bowl and saucer. It is better to use Moment universal gel glue for ceramics, plastic or glass. Any other adhesive designed to work with smooth surfaces can serve as an alternative. A glue gun is also used, but it is mainly designed to work with rough surfaces. There is a possibility that the cup will peel off in the near future, after gluing.

3) thick wire, or triple wires. You can use other well-flexible objects, for example, old aluminum forks or spoons, a metal hanger.

superplastic) is a self-hardening thermoplastic. When heated, it becomes plastic and convenient to give it the desired shape. When cooled, it becomes hard, elastic and durable.

5) painting scotch- they can replace superplastic

6), can also replace polymorphus. It resembles plasticine, but unlike it, it hardens well in air. It contains natural ingredients (cereal flour dough), therefore it is absolutely safe for children.

7) decoration items cups: coins, flowers, cones, feathers, candies, beads, buttons, ribbons and much, much more.

Cup assembly process

The process of creating a floating mug is not at all complicated, but there are several important nuances that must be taken into account when creating it.

The main secret in creating a flying bowl is right choice tea couple. The cup and saucer should not be too heavy. Given this condition, it will be easier to create a flying bowl!

We construct the base of the floating cup, this is the element that connects the saucer to the cup. To do this, take the wire of the desired length. It is important to consider that the distance between the bowl and the saucer should be approximately two cups. With these parameters, the flying cup will look the most balanced.

Inside the bowl, we form a loop from the wire, the diameter of which should be 2-4 cm. This will help to achieve a better fixation of the wire in the cup. We twist the second end of the wire into a flat spiral in two or three turns. Thus, we get a kind of stand, which we will fix in a saucer.

The tilt radius of the resulting structure should not exceed 45 degrees, otherwise the structure will be unstable!

Polymorphus is the most best material in the manufacture of a flying cup.

We take a piece of polymorphus, immerse it in hot water for 20 seconds. During this time, the material is converted into a soft plastic.

With the resulting plastic, like plasticine, we stick around the base, giving the desired shape. If the plastic hardened before you had time to finish the work, then simply dip it again in hot water. The prepared base will completely harden within 15 minutes.

If you do not have this material at hand, you can use the modeling mass. An alternative to these two materials can be masking tape, which is simply wrapped around the wire base. Or you can wrap the wire with felt or other cloth, after smearing it with glue.

An important aspect is the constant fitting of the base on a saucer with a cup in order to see the shortcomings in time!

Pay special attention to the edge of your cup in the place where the structure will be attached!

In this place it is necessary to make a kind of step in the form of a prop. So the design will hold much more reliably.

When the base is ready, you can begin to fix it on the cup. Lubricate with glue all the contact surfaces of the base with a saucer and a cup. Press firmly and hold for 3-5 minutes. Don't forget to glue a step to support the cup!

We fix the flying cup on soft objects in the right direction and leave in this position for 5 hours. During this time, the glue will dry well and securely fix the resulting floating bowl.

When the floating cup is well glued, you need to check how stable it is.

If the saucer is not able to hold the cup, then it is necessary to reduce the radius of inclination of the structure until it becomes stable.

The last stage of making a flying bowl is the most interesting and creative. Decorate a cup! We apply glue-gel to the decorative elements and glue it.

It is better to glue the large elements first, and glue the smaller ones last. This will hide small visible flaws and gaps between the elements.

After all the decorations are glued, it is necessary to let the cup stand for 5 hours so that the glue dries.

The process of assembling a flying bowl is discussed in detail in the master class.

In this material, we will tell and show how you can simply and beautifully paint ceramic or glass dishes with your own hands, even if you don’t know how to draw at all, but want to decorate mugs or glasses for yourself or make an original gift out of them.

Master class number 1: Watercolor on a mug of nail polish - decor in 5 minutes

Let's start with the simplest, fastest and most affordable do-it-yourself drawing technique, which at the same time will be very creative and stylish.

What will be required:

  1. Nail polish remover, as well as cotton pads and sticks - for degreasing the surface and correcting the pattern;
  2. Nail polish - 1-3 pcs. different colors (can be thickened);

  1. Container with warm water - a plastic container or a plastic / ceramic plate will do;
  2. Toothpick - in order to stir the varnish in water;
  3. Napkins - to wipe off excess water.

Drawing technique:

  1. Degrease the surface with alcohol or acetone;
  2. Add a little varnish to a container with warm water. If you want to make a more transparent coating, then add only 2-3 drops, and to create a more saturated shade - 5 or more.

After the first varnish, immediately add a few drops of the second, and then the third varnish (if desired).

  1. Now you need to take a toothpick and mix the paints with a light movement as shown in the photo above in the lower right corner;
  2. And finally, we lower the cup into water with paint - you will see how the varnish instantly covers its surface with “marble” stains;
  3. If necessary, correct the resulting pattern on the mug with nail polish remover, and then leave it to dry for 2 hours.

Well, that's it, the decor is ready!

If you wish, you can add painting with contour or acrylic paints, and use special markers for ceramics to write a congratulation, a funny inscription, a monogram, etc. But keep in mind that it is undesirable to wash such dishes in a dishwasher and heat them up in a microwave oven.

Despite the fact that this is a master class on painting a ceramic mug, you can make drawings on glasses in the same way.

Master class number 2: Painting a mug with a joke

This workshop is great for co-creating with toddlers as it's simple and fun at the same time. This time we will draw only at the bottom of the cup such funny drawings.

What will be required:

  1. Cotton pads and any degreaser - ethyl alcohol, nail polish remover or white spirit;
  2. Acrylic paint - for painting the bottom. AT this example black paint is used, but you can choose any color;
  3. Marker for ceramics and glass in a contrasting color or acrylic or contour paints for painting dishes;
  4. Adhesive tape - regular or paint.

Drawing technique:

  1. Degrease the bottom of a mug or glass;
  2. Glue the adhesive tape as shown in the photo below;

  1. Next, at the bottom of the mug you need to apply a dense layer of paint;
  1. After the entire bottom is painted over, peel off the adhesive tape and put the mug in the oven to bake at a temperature of 150-170 degrees for 30-35 minutes. Then let the mug cool down;

  1. As soon as the mug cools down after baking, trim the edges of the painted bottom, for example, with a clerical knife as shown in the photo below;

  1. And now it's time to draw. The drawing can be applied with contour or acrylic paints or with a special marker for ceramics, as in this master class. Felt pens and markers do not need to be baked, they dry in 24 hours, but acrylic paints can be dried either naturally, left to dry for 1 day, or baked at a temperature of 150-170 degrees for about half an hour.

And here are other ideas for drawings on the bottom of the cup.

Master class number 3: Spot painting glasses and mugs

The technique of dot painting (point to point or peak) will be somewhat more difficult, and yet, anyone can handle it.

What will be required:

  1. Contour paints for glass and ceramics, acrylic paints with a small brush or marker for ceramics;
  2. Degreaser and cotton pads for degreasing, as well as cotton buds for correcting the pattern.

Drawing technique:

  1. Degrease the surface of a cup or glass;
  2. We draw a sketch of the desired pattern or image with our own hands or print the picture in the desired size.
  • In the case of painting glasses made of glass, the sketch must be glued with adhesive tape on the reverse side;
  • If you draw on ceramics, then with the help of a sketch you can outline the main contours and lines along which the drawing will line up;
  • And you can also make a stencil and a template (with your own hands or print on a printer) or use tape.

  1. First you need to test all the tubes and make sure that the paints are not too thin and not too thick - they should squeeze out easily, but not in a puddle. Then practice on a sheet of paper to put dots of small, medium and large diameter with the same pressure and interval. (see photo below). The distance between the points should not only be the same, but also minimal;

  1. As soon as the dots become the same size, start drawing, maintaining a distance of about 2 cm from the edge of the circle.

Basic principles of spot painting mugs:

  • As already mentioned: in one line, the points should be the same in diameter and volume (if you draw with contours);

  • It is especially important to maintain the same and optimal distance. It should be such that the points are distinguishable, but not scattered, so that they form a single line. At the same time, keep in mind that the larger the points, the greater the distance between them is permissible, and vice versa, the smaller the points, the smaller the interval must be maintained;
  • First you need to draw large, that is, the main parts of the picture, building the entire composition, and only then draw the details.
  1. The finished drawing must be fixed. To do this, the mugs need to be put in the oven for half an hour to bake at a temperature of 150-170 C. Markers most often do not require baking and dry out in 1 day.

You can draw not only dots, but also polka dots, which can be applied with acrylic paint using a pencil eraser, cotton swab or brush. Here interesting ideas painting glasses and mugs with polka dots.
