Refine information

DNA: Yves Saint Laurent is as legendary in fashion history as Coco Chanel and Christian Dior. He is considered the founder of the unisex style - and this is probably the most significant contribution to the development of fashion over the past half century. It was Saint Laurent who first dressed women in men's clothing - a tuxedo, a three-piece suit and over the knee boots. He was also one of the first to start making prêt-a-porter clothes, which to a large extent contributed to the democratization of fashion, began to produce blank items with the brand logo, showed that military uniforms can fit perfectly into everyday wardrobe, and drew attention to elements of national costumes different countries– his first collection for Dior played with the forms of the traditional Russian sundress.

Another famous Saint Laurent product is Opium perfume, which has become the most famous fragrance released by the fashion house. The name caused a lot of controversy at one time, but they did not negatively affect sales - Opium has been successfully sold since 1977.

Today, Saint Laurent continues to play on the contrast of male and female, high and low. There are many avant-garde models in the collections, like a bright blue fur coat with half a meter shoulders, contradictory elements and combinations: a Victorian jabot is paired with a tuxedo, a delicate chiffon dress is paired with a leather jacket.

Price policy: expensive, on a par with Dior, Prada, Valentino. Shoes cost an average of 500 euros, bags - 1.5 thousand euros, dresses - a thousand euros. And this, of course, prices are not on the first line.

Story: Yves Saint Laurent worked as an assistant to Christian Dior until he founded his own fashion house in 1961, and later as creative director of the Dior fashion house. That famous trip of 12 fashion models in Dior clothes to the USSR, by the way, was made during that period. He worked at Dior Saint Laurent for a short time, in 1960 he was called to military service and sent to Africa, where he left after 20 days due to a nervous breakdown. After the return of Saint Laurent, together with his life partner Pierre Bergé, he founded the fashion house Yves Saint Laurent.

The history of the fashion house was not without a crisis - in the 1990s, the company suffered serious financial difficulties. The life of Yves Saint Laurent himself was overshadowed by drug addiction, from which he was treated at about the same time. In 2002, he finally retired, died - in 2008 at the age of 71.

Black leather skirts and short shorts are suggested to be worn with fitted jackets and wide-brimmed hats. Wide folds of soft flounces, massive decorations and a floral small pattern with the shortest length of mini-dresses and frank necklines. High heels, sequined dresses and voluminous shoulders - Anthony Vaccarello, creative director of the Yves Saint Laurent fashion house, dedicated the brand's new autumn-winter collection to the brand's founder, the famous couturier.

mixed style

There is nothing unexpected in such an approach - in the place of female models, one can often easily imagine defiling young men, and the coats that the latter showed can easily be worn by everyone at all - if the figure, of course, allows. This, of course, is not about dresses - but almost all tuxedos are clearly masculine in nature and all unisex style jackets can be worn by anyone with ease and grace.

Such a mixture is quite typical for French fashion designers in general - and Saint Laurent went down in history, not least due to the fact that he skillfully mixed feminine and masculine in his models. It was he who made the world recognize that wide, as if masculine, shoulders and emphasized lapels of a jacket complete with trousers are very sexy if the suit is worn on a naked body, lips are emphasized with bright lipstick and the outfit is complemented by high heels. Now such a story has been repeated in a new reading of Vacarello - and this move was definitely a success, just look at the models.

Rock'n'roll

It would seem that this is about eternal rebellion - but no, in this collection the style direction speaks more about the sharpness of the silhouette, the graphics of the lines and the win-win presentation of semantic moves in black leather. Short tight skirts and shorts are sewn from it - they look more elegant than hooligan - jackets in which it is decent to appear anywhere at all, and not just at a rock concert or driving a bike.

Black again

Another, somewhat softened, but no less luxurious option than black leather, is velvet or matte suede, long-haired fur or guipure, which are often offered to be mixed with each other, creating a play of textures and surfaces. This is a very soft game in which everyone wins - formally no stylistic prohibitions are violated, but the variety of proposed textured solutions within a single space of the collection allows you to choose what you like best in this moment— depending on the mood or the weather.

Wearing this luxury is offered with black tights of any texture and high heels - at least the same black, at least a contrasting milky color. By the way, on half of the models one could see shoes on a high, impressive platform, which were written off a few years ago - but a flat sole with a neat toe is also quite suitable for the next winter, according to the author of the collection.

Ruffles-flowers

Here, too, it was possible to do without excesses - this is romantic femininity without an extra roll into sweetness or cloying. This happened because clearly and emphatically feminine prints are all freely located on the same graphic silhouette - wide emphasized shoulders with a rather rigid line, a draped bodice that emphasizes the décolleté area, and a short skirt or tight trousers.

Accessories and accents

Predatory wide arrows on the eyes and smoothly combed hair with a side parting, massive bracelets on fragile wrists and earrings noticeable from afar - often completely different in shape and style than other jewelry. Shoes, regardless of the width of the sole, are decorated with fur or fancifully lying feathers. The autumn-winter season definitely promises to be not boring, but there will definitely be more spectacularly dressed people on the red carpet and social events. Thanks to the ideas of the Saint Laurent house.
